Research Trends of Ocular Tuberculosis: A Bibliometric Analysis.

PURPOSE: Ocular tuberculosis (OTB), an extrapulmonary manifestation of tuberculosis (TB), significantly impacts vision acuity and presents challenges in diagnosis and treatment. With ongoing research efforts, new insights into its pathogenesis and treatment have emerged. This study employed bibliometric methods to investigate key research areas and emerging trends, aiming to provide a comprehensive overview of the field. METHODS: The documents about OTB from January 1, 2003 to December 31, 2023, were retrieved from the Web of Science Core Collection (WoSCC). VOSviewer, CiteSpace, R package bi

Global hotspots and trends in Acanthosis nigricans research: A bibliometric and visualized analysis.

BACKGROUND: Acanthosis nigricans (AN) is a common skin disease characterized by clear pigmented patches on the folds of the skin. However, the AN research field lacks scientific and comprehensive bibliometric analysis. This article aims to use bibliometric methods to summarize and visualize the distribution patterns, research hotspots, and development trends of AN literature. METHODS: Literature from 1900 to 2024 was retrieved from the Web of Science Core Collection database through AN's thematic search. Using CiteSpace, VOSviewer, and Excel 2019, conduct a comprehensive analysis of the numbe

Bibliometric and visual assessment of research trends in the management of hyperuricemia (HUA).

OBJECTIVE: To analyze the development status and trend of related research in the health management of hyperuricemia and provide a theoretical basis for clinical treatment. METHODS: A bibliometric analysis was conducted on hyperuricemia health management research data from 2000 to 2024 using the Web Science Core Collection database, PubMed, and SINOMED. A total of 789 articles were evaluated for specific characteristics, such as year of publication, journal, author, institution, country/region, reference, and keyword. The VOSviewer was used for co-author, co-occurrence, co-citation, and netwo

Research trends and hotspot analysis of age-related hearing loss: A bibliometric analysis from 2019 to 2023.

BACKGROUND: Age-related hearing loss (ARHL) - also termed presbycusis - is prevalent among older adults, leading to a range of issues. Although considerable progress in the understanding of ARHL over the decades, available reports lack data from recent years and do not comprehensively reflect the latest advancements and trends. Therefore, our study sought to assess research hotspots and trends in ARHL over the past 5 years to provide the basis for future research. MATERIALS AND METHODS: The Web of Science Core Collection database was searched and screened from January 1, 2019 to October 21, 2

Big data and data repurposing - using existing data to answer new questions in vascular dementia research.

INTRODUCTION: Traditional approaches to clinical research have, as yet, failed to provide effective treatments for vascular dementia (VaD). Novel approaches to collation and synthesis of data may allow for time and cost efficient hypothesis generating and testing. These approaches may have particular utility in helping us understand and treat a complex condition such as VaD. METHODS: We present an overview of new uses for existing data to progress VaD research. The overview is the result of consultation with various stakeholders, focused literature review and learning from the group's experie

Development of Research on Huntington Disease in China.

Huntington disease (HD) is a progressive autosomal dominantly inherited neurodegenerative disorder, characterized with the typical manifestations of involuntary movements, cognitive dysfunction, and psychiatric or behavioral disturbance. It results from an expansion in the number of CAG repeats in the first exon of the huntingtin (HTT) gene. In China, since the first case report in 1959, the knowledge of this disorder has been involving a lot, especially in the latest decade. In this review, we meta-analysis and summarize the research reports that were published by Chinese researchers since 19

Translational Research in Pleural Infection and Beyond.

The incidence of pleural infection has been rising in recent years. Intrapleural therapy with tissue plasminogen activator (tPA) and deoxyribonuclease (DNase) has significantly reduced the need for surgery, and its impact on clinical care is rising worldwide. Efforts are underway to optimize the delivery regimen and establish the short and longer term effects of this therapy. The complex interactions of bacterial infection within the pleura with inflammatory responses and clinical interventions (antibiotics and tPA/DNase or other fibrinolysins) require further studies to improve future treatme

When gain-of-function research is not "gain-of-function" research.

The recent publication of an influenza high‐yield vaccine backbone again raises questions about the regulation of gain‐of‐function research with dangerous pathogens. It shows that the current classification system based on select pathogens needs a more fine‐grained distinction to better identify those pathogens and their strains that have pandemic potential. Recommendations of the French Society for Rheumatology (SFR) on the everyday management of patients with spondyloarthritis.

UNLABELLED: The management of spondyloarthritis is challenging and has changed with the development of new concepts and treatments. OBJECTIVE: To develop practice guidelines for the everyday management of patients with spondyloarthritis (including psoriatic arthritis), by updating previous national and international recommendations, based on a review of recently published data. METHODS: A task force and a multidisciplinary literature review group were established. The task force identified the issues that remained unresolved. Based on existing recommendations and recent publications, the tas

Translational research in primary mitochondrial diseases: challenges and opportunities.

On March 8–9, 2012, the NIH intramural and extramural research communities as well as representatives from industries and foundations with a common interest in primary mitochondrial diseases met in Bethesda to identify the major barriers to the development of better treatment for mitochondrial diseases. Besides the importance to the patient population, it has become clear in the last decade that advances in understanding and treating primary mitochondrial diseases will impact research into a large number of degenerative conditions known to have a significant mitochondrial dysfunction component

Documented and potential research impacts of subclinical diseases in zebrafish.

The zebrafish (Danio rerio) has become a very important animal model in biomedical research. In contrast with other models, such as mice, there has been relatively little documentation or control of subclinical disease in zebrafish research facilities. Several infectious and noninfectious conditions are consistently detected by histopathology in apparently healthy D. rerio. The most commonly observed infectious agent in zebrafish is Pseudoloma neurophilia, which is a microsporidian organism that targets the central nervous system, peripheral nerves, and occasionally other tissues. Mycobacterio…

The future of Alzheimer's disease: the next 10 years.

Alzheimer's disease (AD) is a fast growing world-wide epidemic. AD is a genetically complex, slowly progressive, and irreversible neurodegenerative disease of the brain. During decades of asymptomatic progression multiple interactive systems, pathways and molecular mechanisms (e.g. protein processing, aberrant signaling, inflammation and immune system, lipid transport, endocytosis, apoptosis, oxidative damage and response to stress, tau pathology, neuron and synapse loss, energy metabolism), contribute to the development of the early clinical prodromal stage with episodic memory deficits and t
