Evaluation of anaphylactoid constituents in vitro and in vivo.

Natural medicine injections have been widely used in clinics, while adverse reaction reports also have increased rapidly in recent years. To examine the anaphylactoid constituents of natural medicine injections, RBL-2H3 cell degranulation and human serum complement activation models were used to screen the anaphylactoid constituents, and the BN rat model was used to explore the anaphylactoid mechanism of these constituents. The result of an in vitro study showed that the individual compounds of natural medicine injections (chlorogenic acid, hyodeoxycholic acid, cholalic acid, ginkgolic acid, p…

Hydrogen Sulfide Enhances Browning Repression and Quality Maintenance in Fresh-Cut Peaches via Modulating Phenolic and Amino Acids Metabolisms.

Effects of hydrogen sulfide (H2S) on the browning and quality maintenance of fresh-cut peach fruit were studied. The results showed that H2S treatment repressed the development of surface browning, suppressed the increase in respiration rate and weight loss, and delayed the decline of firmness while soluble solids content (SSC) and microbial growth were unaffected during storage. H2S treatment maintained higher contents of phenolic compounds, especially neo-chlorogenic acid, catechin, and quercetin, and delayed the degradation of phenolic compounds by enhancing the activities of phenolic biosy…

Lactobacillus plantarum-fermented persimmon juice alleviates alcohol-induced hepatic ferroptosis by activating the Keap1/Nrf2 antioxidant axis.

INTRODUCTION: Alcoholic liver disease (ALD), induced by chronic and excessive alcohol consumption, poses a significant health risk, with hig … S analysis confirmed Fj was enriched in bioactive compounds including elevated antioxidants such as chlorogenic acid and p-hydrobenzoic acid. Daily Fj administration (10 μg/g BW) significantly improved hepatic lipid metabolism and regulated Keap1/Nrf2 signaling pathway, ultimately mitigating hepatic ferroptosis. CONCLUSION: These findings demonstrate that probiot …

Phytochemical Profiling, Antioxidant and Antimicrobial Potentials of Ethanol and Ethyl Acetate Extracts of Chamaenerion latifolium L.

The study investigates the phytochemical profile, antioxidant capacity, and antimicrobial activities of ethanol (ChL-EtOH) and ethyl acetate (ChL-EtOAc) extracts from Chamaenerion latifolium L. (ChL) harvested in Kazakhstan. The ChL-EtOH extract exhibited higher total phenolic (267.48 ± 3.44 mg GAE/g DE) and flavonoid content (24.18 ± 1.06 mg QE/g DE) compared to ChL-EtOAc. HPLC-UV-ESI/MS identified key phenolic acids and flavonoids, including gallic acid, chlorogenic acid, and quercetin 3-glucoside. FT-IR analysis confirmed the presence of characteristic functional groups. Antioxidant assays …

Characterization of Coffee Silver Skin as Potential Food-Safe Ingredient.

By-products from the coffee industry are produced in large amounts each year. Among other wastes, coffee silver skin (CSS) is highly available and more stable due to its lower content of water. This research aimed to characterize coffee silver skin composition and evidence its potentiality for use as a food-safe ingredient in new formulations. Results showed an average total dietary fiber content of 50% but with a higher ratio for insoluble than soluble fiber. A high content of total phenolic compounds, chlorogenic acid, caffeine, and caffeic acid was found and correlated with the high measure…

Evaluation of physicochemical properties of Qinling Apis cerana honey and the antimicrobial activity of the extract against Salmonella Typhimurium LT2 in vitro and in vivo.

Apis cerana honey collected from the Qinling Mountains in China has been widely used for its antimicrobial property in traditional Chinese medicine. However, its antibacterial mechanism against Salmonella Typhimurium LT2 is still uncertain. A total of 52 volatile components were identified using headspace-gas-chromatography-ion-mobility, and Qinling A. cerana honey exhibited more abundant aromas than monofloral honeys. The phenolic extracts of honey sample F exhibited the lowest minimum inhibitory concentration (5 mg/mL), and chlorogenic acid exhibited the highest (155.91 ± 0.79 mg/kg), follow…

Short-Term Effect of a Wild Blueberry (Vaccinium angustifolium) Drink on Vascular Reactivity and Circulating Adhesion Molecules in Healthy Adults: A Double-Blind, Randomized, Placebo-Controlled, Crossover Trial.

Background: Wild blueberries (WB), abundant in (poly)phenols such as anthocyanins and chlorogenic acids, have shown vascular benefits in several preclinical and epidemiological settings. However, evidence from human trials remains limited. This double-blind, randomized, placebo-controlled, crossover trial investigated the effects of the consumption of a WB drink on vascular reactivity and circulating adhesion molecules in healthy young adults. Methods: Participants received 300 mL of a WB drink (30 g of freeze-dried WB powder containing 740 mg total (poly)phenols, 460 mg total anthocyanins and…

Antileukemic activity of selected natural products in Taiwan.

The aim of the present study was to evaluate the antileukemic activity of six chemical classes of pure compounds present in commonly used medicinal plants in Taiwan--such as the genus Plantago. Studies were conducted on a series of human leukemia and lymphoma cell lines. Results showed that water soluble compounds (aucubin, caffeic acid, chlorogenic acid, ferulic acid, p-coumaric acid and vanillic acid) exhibited a weak antileukemic activity (IC50: 26-56 microg/ml, SI: 2-11). On the other hand, water insoluble compounds such as triterpenoids (oleanolic acid and ursolic acid), monoterpene (lina…

Bioactive compounds in the modulation of oxidative stress in monocytes and macrophages.

Human immunity involves both innate and adaptive defence mechanisms, with inflammation playing a central role in responding to cellular injury, pathogenic infections, and allergic stimuli. Reactive oxygen species (ROS) are closely associated with the onset and progression of inflammation. While moderate ROS levels function as crucial signalling molecules, excessive ROS can damage cellular components. This study aimed to evaluate the anti-inflammatory and antioxidant potential of plant-derived bioactive compounds including chlorogenic acid, oleuropein, tomatine, and tyrosol using human monocyti…

1,3,5-Tricaffeoylquinic Acid from Ipomoea batatas Vines Induced Ovarian Cancer Cell Apoptosis and Inhibited Endothelial Tube Formation.

Ovarian cancer usually metastasizes from the ovary to adjacent organs through direct invasion with blood vessels formed by endothelial cells. Targeting apoptosis of ovarian cancer and angiogenesis is promising for anticancer therapy. Leaves of Ipomoea sp. have reportedly shown promise in treating ovarian cancer. Here, we investigated the apoptosis-inducing and anti-angiogenic effects of compounds isolated from Ipomoea batatas vines (IBV). Phytochemical examination of IBV led to the isolation and verification of eight compounds (1-8): chlorogenic acid (1), 3,4-dicaffeoylquinic acid (2), 3,5-dic…
