[Synchronous Triple Malignant Tumors (Hilar Cholangiocarcinoma, Ascending Colon Cancer, Liposarcoma) Resected in a Two-Stage Procedure--A Case Report].

A 70-year-old man with a history of myocardial infarction (MI) and taking 2 antiplatelet drugs was diagnosed with anemia his 6-month post-MI checkup. A lower gastrointestinal endoscopy detected ascending colon cancer, and contrast-enhanced a computed tomography scan revealed hilar cholangiocarcinoma as well as lesions suspicious for gastrointestinal stromal tumors of the small intestine. The patient was given a preoperative diagnosis of synchronous triple malignant tumors. The decision to perform a two-stage procedure was made for the following reasons: the impossibility of discontinuing antip

[Parastomal hernia with incarcerated necrosis at ascending colon 18 years after the construction of ileal conduit: a case report].

A 78-year-old woman had undergone radical cystectomy and construction of ileal conduit because of bladder cancer in 1988. Eighteen years after the operation, she was referred to our hospital with the chief complaint of abdominal pain and oliguria. She had a mass just superolateral to the stoma with tenderness and reddish skin. Abdominal X-ray and computed tomographic scanning showed free air and peristomal intestinal dilation in the subcutaneous area. With a diagnosis of incarcerated parastomal hernia and intestinal perforation, emergency operation was performed. The orifice of the hernia was

A large non-inverted true diverticulum resembling a submucosal tumor of the ascending colon: a report of a rare case.

A 57-year-old woman presented with a chief complaint of right lower abdominal pain. Abdominal radiography and plain abdominal computed tomography revealed a mass with extensive calcification. A colonoscopy demonstrated a 20-mm-sized mass lesion protruding into the intestinal lumen from the ileocecal valve's lower lip. The mass was covered with normal mucosa without erosions. Endoscopic ultrasonography indicated that the tumor originated from or beneath the proper muscle layer. To treat the pain, eliminate the obstruction risk, and obtain a definitive diagnosis, the patient chose surgical resec

A Rare Case of Moderately Differentiated Adenocarcinoma With PD-L1 Overexpression and a Heterogeneous LELC Component in the Ascending Colon.

BACKGROUND: Lymphoepithelioma-like carcinomas (LELCs), especially colorectal cancers (CRCs), are uncommon pathological phenotypes generally associated with poor aggressiveness and a preferable prognosis. However, PD-L1 overexpression in CRCs is associated with poor outcomes. We report a case of moderately differentiated adenocarcinoma with PD-L1 overexpression, an LELC component, and Crohn's-like lymphoid reaction (CLR) presenting with extreme locoregional aggression and complete remission with chemotherapy after noncurative excision. CASE PRESENTATION: A 69-year-old man was referred to our h

A resected case of medullary carcinoma of the ascending colon followed by infarction of the greater omentum mimicking anastomotic leakage.

INTRODUCTION: Medullary carcinoma is a rare type of colorectal adenocarcinoma, and omental infarction is a rare cause of acute abdomen. PRESENTATION OF CASE: A 72-year-old woman underwent single-incision laparoscopic right hemicolectomy for ascending colon cancer. Pathological examination showed a medullary carcinoma (MC) of T4aN0M0 Stage IIB. Her postoperative course was uneventful, and she was discharged on postoperative day (POD) 6. From POD 7, she suffered from fever, and she returned to the hospital on POD 9. Plain computed tomography showed free air beside the anastomotic site around th

Myoelectric activity of the cecum and proximal loop of the ascending colon in cows after spontaneous cecal dilatation/dislocation.

OBJECTIVE: To analyze myoelectric activity of the cecum and proximal loop of the ascending colon (PLAC) in cows after spontaneous cecal dilatation/dislocation (CDD) and compare it with that in healthy cows after surgical evacuation of the cecum. ANIMALS: 12 cows with spontaneous CDD and 6 healthy cows (group C). Cows with spontaneous CDD were retrospectively assigned to 2 groups: delayed recovery from surgery or recurrence (group A; n = 3), and normal recovery (group B; n = 9). PROCEDURE: After surgical evacuation of the cecum, 8 pairs of bipolar, retrievable electrodes were implanted in the

Neuron number in the myenteric plexus of the ascending colon of rats. A comparative study using two staining techniques.

We carried out this study with the purpose of comparing the neuronal density in antimesocolic and intermediate regions of the colon of rats. We used the ascending colon of ten seven-months old Wistar rats. With the Giemsa method we found 29,046 neurons/cm2 on the antimesocolic region and 30,968 neurons/cm2 on the intermediate regions. With the NADH-diaphorase technique 12,308 neurons/cm2 on the antimesocolic regions and 8798 neurons/cm2 on the intermediate regions were evidenced. The number of NADH-diaphorase positive neurons is significantly less than the number of Giemsa-stained neurons and

Isolated left-lobe metastatic hepatic abscess due to portal pyemia from microperforated ascending colon carcinoma: a rare case report.

INTRODUCTION AND IMPORTANCE: Liver abscess-like lesions are commonly managed as primary hepatobiliary infections; however, colorectal cancer can be an occult source, particularly when portal pyemia follows a microperforated tumor. Diagnostic complexity increases when right-sided colon cancer presents with an apparently isolated left-lobe hepatic collection mimicking foregut disease, especially in settings where anaerobic culture and immunohistochemistry are limited. CASE PRESENTATION: A middle-aged woman in her fifth decade with an 8-month history of intermittent right iliac fossa pain and re

Laparoscopic hemicolectomy with intracorporeal anastomosis for ascending colon cancer in situs inversus totalis: a case report and literature review.

Ascending colon cancer complicated by situs inversus totalis (SIT) represents an extremely rare clinical entity. This congenital anatomical variant substantially increases surgical complexity, and published clinical reports regarding this condition remain scarce. Herein, we report a patient who underwent laparoscopic radical right hemicolectomy (LRH) with intracorporeal anastomosis (IA), accompanied by an operative video. We further reviewed the available published literature to accumulate additional surgical experience for managing this rare disease.

Laparoscopic right hemicolectomy for an ascending colon cancer patient with an implantable left ventricular assist device: a case report.

BACKGROUND: Left ventricular assist devices (LVADs) currently play an important role in the treatment of patients with end-stage heart failure who require a bridge to heart transplantation or destination therapy. With the development and improvement of the LVADs, the morbidity and mortality rates are declining and life expectancies increasing, and the number of patients with LVADs requiring non-cardiac surgery is likely to increase. We present the case of a patient with implantable LVAD who underwent laparoscopic right hemicolectomy for ascending colon cancer. CASE DESCRIPTION: The patient wa

Robotic Approach to Right-Sided Hiatal Hernia Involving the Ascending and Transverse Colon, Duodenum, and Distal Stomach: A Case Report.

INTRODUCTION: Cases of hiatal hernia (HH) involving the distal stomach, duodenum, and ascending and transverse colon are exceptionally rare and present significant surgical challenges owing to severe anatomical distortion. Although minimally invasive surgery is the gold standard for HH repair, the application of a robotic approach to this specific complex configuration involving distal gastric and duodenal herniations has not been previously reported. Here, we present the case of such a defect that was managed successfully using a robotic platform. CASE PRESENTATION: A 36-year-old female pres

A first report of right-hemicolectomy for ascending colon cancer in Japan with the da Vinci SP surgical robot system.

BACKGROUND: The da Vinci SP robotic surgical system received regulatory approval for use in colorectal cancer surgery in Japan in April 2023. Given the advantages of the precision of a robot and the postoperative cosmesis of single-site surgery, the system is expected to be further utilized for minimally invasive surgeries, in addition to the curative and safety-assured laparoscopic technique. CASE PRESENTATION: A 73-year-old man presented at our hospital with positive fecal occult blood. He was diagnosed with cT2N0M0 (Stage I) ascending colon cancer and underwent a right hemicolectomy, which
