INTRODUCTION: Vaccination is a cornerstone of public health; however, the master's-level training in Spain remains fragmented and largely delivered through non-official master's degrees (Spanish título propio) with heterogeneous structures and uneven coverage of critical domains. The lack of harmonized competency standards limits workforce readiness and international comparability. This study aimed to map the national training landscape and develop a consensus-based, competency-oriented core curriculum for a future official master's program in vaccinology.
METHODS: We conducted a nationwide s…

AIMS: Diabetes prevalence in the Eastern Mediterranean Region (EMR) is among the highest globally, yet structured therapeutic patient education (TPE) is inconsistently implemented. This study aimed to describe the multi-phase development, structure, and implementation planning of a WHO-led, diabetes-specific TPE curriculum tailored to the EMR.
METHODS: A multi-phase, formative approach was used to inform curriculum development. This included a synthesis of existing evidence, a regional situation analysis combining desk review, stakeholder surveys, and semi-structured interviews, and stakehold…

INTRODUCTION AND PROBLEM STATEMENT: Simulation-based education is increasingly used in neurology training. Incorporating drama students as simulated patients and family members is a feasible approach to high-fidelity simulation, but formal evaluations and longitudinal outcomes of cross-disciplinary educational collaborations are limited. To address this gap, our neurology and drama departments jointly developed a simulation curriculum and assessment of its impact on educational outcomes of residents, and healthcare perception and performance skills of drama students.
OBJECTIVES: Objectives of…

BACKGROUND: Internal medicine (IM) education in resource-limited hospitals is constrained by heavy workloads and imaging limited to plain radiography. Point-of-care ultrasound (POCUS) supports experiential learning and diagnostic reasoning, yet no rounds-integrated IM curricula have been described in Latin America, and most programs stop short of practice-based bedside assessment.
AIM: To implement and evaluate a rounds-integrated POCUS curriculum in a resource-limited IM setting.
SETTING: Hospital Nacional de Coatepeque (228-bed Guatemalan public hospital).
PARTICIPANTS: Eight final-year m…

Background Exposure to critically ill children during emergency medicine (EM) residency is limited and variable. General EDs care for over 85% of the 36 million annual pediatric ED visits in the U.S., highlighting a training gap. To address this, the Emergency Medicine Resident Simulation Curriculum for Pediatrics (EM ReSCu Peds) was developed by more than 50 pediatric simulation experts as a free, open-access curriculum of 16 peer‑reviewed cases. Representatives from 10 national EM, pediatric EM (PEM), and simulation organizations, along with contributors from 44 institutions, created and ite…

BACKGROUND: As anatomy curricula in medical schools transition from cadaveric dissection to digital alternatives, medical educators must seek novel strategies to maintain student engagement. To address this challenge, we aimed to integrate an online module and lecture on facial transplantation (FT) into the head and neck anatomy medical school curriculum and assess its effectiveness.
METHODS: An online learning module paired with a lecture was created, with shared learning objectives based on the principles of FT. Through multimedia learning, clinically relevant content was used to teach anat…

BACKGROUND: Eating disorders are among the most prevalent chronic conditions affecting adolescents, yet remain underdiagnosed in outpatient pediatric settings. Physician discomfort with screening and management contributes to this gap, particularly in underserved communities. This study evaluated whether a structured educational curriculum paired with an EMR-integrated clinical decision support tool improves physician comfort with eating disorder screening and management, and increases screening behavior, in an outpatient pediatric clinic.

INTRODUCTION: Many medical graduates are entering practice not ready in the ways that count. The prevailing explanation is a lack of opportunity for clinical experience, but this rationale is insufficient in resource constrained, high-volume clinical training contexts. What is legitimised will ultimately shape what is learned. This study aimed to explore what forms of knowledge, participation, and ways of being are legitimised within a medical curriculum in South Africa.
METHOD: We conducted explanatory, instrumental case study research using multiple sources of data from one medical school i…

Pediatric Palliative Care provision is currently inequitable for tamariki (children) with serious illness, and their whānau in Aotearoa New Zealand. A lack of access to education for health professionals has long been identified as a barrier to implementing quality delivery of pediatric palliative care. The Education in Palliative and End of Life Care for Pediatrics (EPEC-Ped) curriculum was developed in 2012 and has been internationally recognized as a high-quality curriculum with demonstrated results in changing practice. This paper explores how this curriculum has been adapted to meet the n…

Nursing programs are compelled to integrate end-of-life care into curricula; however, consistency and quality between programs vary. The End-of-Life Nursing Education Consortium (ELNEC) created an online undergraduate curriculum to meet the need for consistent, high-quality palliative care education. The purpose of this study was to examine the impact of ELNEC's curriculum on undergraduate nursing students' confidence. The ELNEC curriculum was integrated across undergraduate nursing courses at a Midwestern Jesuit university. Upon completion of all 6 ELNEC modules, the Primary Palliative Nursin…

Background Student-run free clinics (SRFCs) are present in many medical schools and help bridge gaps in healthcare access for people experiencing homelessness. Volunteering for SRFCs is a common medical school experience, though it is seldom an integrated component of medical school curricula. This study aims to assess the benefit of formal integration of an SRFC into a medical school curriculum by investigating the common street-side clinic diagnoses and assessing whether clinic participation improved students' confidence in their clinical skills and navigation of the social determinants of h…

Individuals who are incarcerated likely experience trauma or exacerbate existing trauma, which has significant health risks. Trauma-informed care aims to address the experienced trauma. The current study explored the effect of a trauma-informed yoga and mindfulness curriculum in carceral settings. In this quasi-experimental study, participants (n = 326) were assigned to either six weekly sessions of 60-minute group trauma-informed yoga and mindfulness or a waitlist control condition. Stress and mood were measured pre- and postclass, whereas coping, emotional awareness, emotional regulation, an…

BACKGROUND: Telesimulation helps overcome limitations in time and local expertise by eliminating the need for the learner and educator to be physically co-located, especially important during COVID-19. We investigated whether teaching advanced laparoscopic suturing (ALS) through telesimulation is feasible, effective, and leads to improved suturing in the operating room (OR).
METHODS: In this prospective feasibility study, three previously developed 3D-printed ALS tasks were used: needle handling (NH), suturing under tension (UT), and continuous suturing (CS). General surgery residents (PGY4-5

INTRODUCTION: Evidence across healthcare specialties suggests that simulation-based education improves practices and patient outcomes. However, simulation has yet to be widely used in hyperbaric medicine education. We aimed to identify the most relevant clinical scenarios for inclusion in a simulation-based curriculum for hyperbaric medicine.
METHODS: After ethics approval, we used a modified Delphi consensus method. We assembled an initial questionnaire and distributed it online in English and French to an international group of hyperbaric physicians and operators using a snowball recruitmen…
