Squamous cell carcinoma of the uterine cervix with distant metastases can be treated by adjuvant chemotherapy. The at-risk patients are those with histologically proven metastases, the presence of tumour in paracervical tissue and parametrium, evidence of vascular invasion, a great depth of invasion, or poor tumour differentiation. Our studies lead us to believe that differentiation and DNA content are also important criteria.

Diploid/triploid mosaicism is an uncommon clinical syndrome with a subtle but distinctive phenotype. Characteristic features include prenatal and postnatal asymmetric growth deficiency, triangular and/or asymmetric facies, micrognathia, finger and/or toe syndactyly, clinodactyly, single transverse palmar creases, male genital anomalies, hypotonia and psychomotor retardation. Despite extensive investigation, a cause-and-effect relationship between varicocele and male infertility has not been fully proven. We investigated the effect of a unilateral varicocele on both testes. Spermatogenesis in the rats with a surgically induced left varicocele was evaluated 5 weeks postoperatively by measurement of testicular weight, flow cytometric DNA analysis and evaluation of the mean seminiferous tubular diameter (MSTD). In rats with varicoceles, the testicular weight, the percentage of haploid cells and the MSTD were decreased in both testes in contrast to sham-operated rats.

Dedifferentiated chondrosarcoma is an uncommon and aggressive variant of chondrosarcoma. Existing benchmark datasets for use in evaluating variant-calling accuracy are constructed from a consensus of known short-variant callers, and they are thus biased toward easy regions that are accessible by these algorithms. We derived a new benchmark dataset from the de novo PacBio assemblies of two fully homozygous human cell lines, which provides a relatively more accurate and less biased estimate of small-variant-calling error rates in a realistic context.
