PURPOSE: To evaluate the safety and effectiveness of eye-preserving therapies in patients with retinoblastoma presenting with neovascular glaucoma without buphthalmos (defined as early cT3c by the American Joint Committee on Cancer Staging Manual, eighth edition), focusing on overall survival and eye preservation.
DESIGN: Retrospective, single-center cohort study.
PARTICIPANTS: A total of 132 patients diagnosed with early cT3c retinoblastoma from May 2014 through October 2024.

BACKGROUND: Open globe injuries are the most serious eye injuries in war as in peace time. The purpose of this study is to analyze wartime open globe eye injuries in 72 patients treated at the Department of Ophthalmology, Clinical Hospital of Split from July 1991 to April 1993, during the intensive war in Croatia and Bosnia and Herzegovina, and to evaluate crucial factors responsible for the functional success of the treatment.

A 15-year experience with excision of selected uveal melanomas indicates that the human eye does not tolerate a dissection of an intraocular tumor exceeding 10 mm in diameter. Twenty-seven out of 35 eyes retained useful vision. Three cases required enucleation after excision, two of these owing to tumor recurrence. Only one tumor death has occurred, five years and four months after excision.

We compared 2 techniques of inducing cataract in enucleated goat eyes as a training model for phacoemulsification. The cataract was induced using 0.2 to 0.5 mL of formalin 20%. In 10 eyes, formalin was injected through a clear corneal side port into the nucleus after capsulorhexis and in 10 eyes, through the pars plana before capsulorhexis. The pars plana technique achieved a cataract of different grades of nuclear hardness with the added advantage of anterior capsule elasticity closely simulating that of senile cataract but without compromising corneal clarity.

We studied two blind eyes enucleated during the active phase of the acute retinal necrosis syndrome. Both eyes showed similar histopathologic findings of necrotizing retinitis, retinal arteritis, and optic neuropathy. A virus morphologically consistent with a herpes group virus was found on electron microscopy and immunocytopathologic stains showed this virus to be varicella zoster in both cases. Varicella zoster virus was cultured from the vitreous of one of the eyes. We conclude that varicella zoster virus retinal infection is a cause of the acute retinal necrosis syndrome.

A case of melanoma of the ciliary body is presented. Initially the patient was diagnosed and treated for uveitis, but following CT scanning and ultrasound a tumour was detected and the eye enucleated. Histopathologically it was found that the tumour had invaded the optic nerve head, apparently via Cloquet's canal.

Feline glaucoma is best categorized as either secondary, congenital and anterior segment dysgenesis associated, or primary.
