Pseudofolliculitis barbae.

Pseudofolliculitis barbae is a chronic, distressing and potentially disfiguring dermatologic disorder that occurs predominantly in black men. The condition is caused by hairs curling back into the skin and is characterized by papules, pustules and, occasionally, keloidal scars over the beard region. Management includes cessation of shaving, the use of depilatories or topical antibiotics and modification of shaving techniques.

It presents an irregularly marginated, red-brown pigmentation with fine telangiectasia, small, pale, slightly scaly, follicular papules, and patchy alopecia of vellus hair. The histologic features, although nondiagnostic, correlate well with the clinical features. The possibl

Generalized granuloma annulare in a folliculocentric distribution.

We present a 69-year-old man with type 2 diabetes mellitus and a five-year history of an eruption of follicular pustules, papules, and nodules, which was identified histopathologically as folliculocentric granuloma annulare (GA). Folliculocentric generalized GA is a rarely reported variant of GA, in which the the palisading histiocytes form focal granulomas in a follicular pattern. In this case, the GA may represent an isotopic phenomenon, with lesions developing in hair follicles that were previously affected by a suppurative folliculitis.

[Ovarian function in androgenized rats in puberty].

In experiment on rats injected with aromatase inhibitor or with dihydrotestosterone (DHT) it has been revealed that increase of androgens level in blood stimulates ovarial folliculogenesis on its early stages. DHT as compared with testosterone accelerates small follicles growth more effectively. Androgens, particularly DHT (7 mkg/100 g), suppress preovarial follicules maturing and turn them into atretic ones. Suppressing of ovarial functional activity delays or blockages the first ovulation during rats puberty.

[The detection of albumin intraperitoneally administered to rabbits in the subclavian lymph node].

With light and electron microscopy, the localization of human albumin labeled with colloidal gold is described in the subclavia lymph nodes of rabbits following an intraperitoneal injection of this labeled albumin. Most of the particles were found in the reticular cells of the sinus, and some particles were identified in the sinus macrophages. No particles were found inside lymph node follicules within 1 hour after injection. All stages of internalization of foreign protein inside lymph node cells were demonstrated.

Perifolliculitis capitis abscedens et suffodiens (PCAS) is a chronic skin inflammatory disease characterized by relapsing folliculitis and painful, fluctuant abscesses, sinus tracts, and scars. The treatment of PCAS is challenging and clinical practice varies a lot, and how to choose the best treatment for PCAS is a real problem for clinicians. We reviewed articles providing treatment options for patients with PCAS in different databases. Dermatologists may find this review helpful to meet the challenges of PCAS management, but there is still a lack of authoritative guidelines. In the future, …
