Achieving a stable plantigrade foot after repair of complex post-burn deformities poses a particularly difficult challenge for the foot and ankle surgeon. We report an unusual case of a child with severe bilateral forefoot contracture deformities treated by soft tissue release and lengthening, and conventional wound coverage with split-thickness skin grafting.

PURPOSE: Rett syndrome (RTT) is a rare multi-systemic disorder primarily linked to mutations in MECP2 gene. This study aims to describe the … ic conditions were as follows: kyphoscoliosis 63.6%, hip displacement 14.6%, knee problems 40%, and foot deformities 75.5%. Significant relationship emerged between spinal (p < 0.01) and knee deformities (p < 0.01) with reduced motor function across various domains. Hip displacement significantly affected sitting ability (p = 0.002), and foot deformities impacted …

This review addresses severe foot and ankle deformities and describes techniques for internal and external fixation. A combination of internal and external fixation techniques is often necessary in severe foot and ankle deformities secondary to leg length discrepancies. This article includes a thorough literature review as well as an extensive description of these techniques.

BACKGROUND: Pes planus (flatfoot) and pes cavus (high arch foot) are common foot deformities, often requiring clinical and radiographic assessment for diagnosis and potential subsequent management. Traditional diagnostic methods, while effective, pose limitations such as cost, radiation exposure, and accessibility, particularly in underserved areas.
AIM: To develop deep learning algorithms that detect and classify such deformities using smartphone cameras.
METHODS: An algorithm that integrated a deep convolutional neural network (CNN) into a smartphone camera was utilized to detect pes planu…

Many conditions may produce pain in the foot region, including congenital or developmental anomalies, (micro-) traumatic or overuse syndromes, osteonecrosis, tumoral conditions, infectious and inflammatory disorders. The purpose of this review is twofold: to discuss the imaging features of a number of pathologic entities that elicit foot pain as a primary symptom and to comment which imaging technique should be used as the first modality.

In summary, varus deformity of the foot and ankle encompasses a spectrum of deformities from mild to severe. The cause of this deformity may be bone, muscle imbalance, or a combination of both. Surgical intervention should be planned only after the patient's anatomy is understood. Uncorrected symptomatic varus deformities may have significant consequences on gait kinematics and foot biomechanics.

Surgical intervention for chronic deformities and ulcerations has become an important component in the management of patients with diabetes mellitus. Such patients are no longer relegated to wearing cumbersome braces or footwear for deformities that might otherwise be easily corrected. Although surgical intervention in these often high-risk individuals is not without risk, the outcomes are fairly predictable when patients are properly selected and evaluated. In this brief review, we discuss the rationale and indications for diabetic foot surgery, focusing on the surgical decompression of defor

Vascular surgeons are frequently asked to evaluate diabetic patients with foot problems. While most of these patients present with diabetic foot ulcerations, there is a significant number of patients who have a concomitant Charcot arthropathy. Charcot neuropathic arthropathy, also know as Charcot joint disease (CJD), is a progressive, degenerative arthropathy associated with various types of neuropathic diseases; however, diabetes mellitus is the leading cause of CJD today. CJD targets the joints of the foot, leading to structural foot deformities and a threatened limb. Unfortunately, early si…

BACKGROUND: To better understand the preventive or therapeutic clinical interventions that may be supported by the association between rheum … rom RA to flat foot. This underscores the importance of early screening and preventive treatment of foot deformities in RA patients. Further research is necessary to determine the applicability of these findings in non-European populations.

The author identifies main etiologic factors causing intoeing in children. The levels hip joint and proximal femur-tibial torsion and foot deformities are followed. Among foot deformities metatarsus varus in pointed out and described, as the literature is not yet uniform about strict criteria. The clinical appearance is shown and X-ray signs-subluxation of os naviculare laterally on talus and changes of shape of os cuneiforme primum are mentioned. Discussed is conservative therapy-excersises and plaster casts. Key words: metatarsus varus, pes equinovarus, forefoot adduction, X-ray, torsional d…

Nineteen foot centralizations were performed in 14 patients with Jones type I and II tibial hemimelia. All feet showed equinovarus deformity … owever, required secondary surgery to treat postoperative early loss of correction and/or recurrent foot deformities such as equinus, varus and adduction, in addition to talipes calcaneal deformities, and fibular angular deformity at the fibular shortening osteotomy site. The deformities were treated either by repeat foot centralization, or fibular or calcaneal os …

Report on proven methods of operation for the typical foot diseases. Particular emphasis is put on the possibilities for correction of many deformities of the foot through Chopart-arthrodesis by corresponding wedge-removal from the root of the foot, as underlined by Imhäuser. The Chopart-arthrodesis is especially suitable for treating weight-bearing complaints of mal-healed fractures of the calcaneum, because this procedure stabilizes the hindfoot and sets the mid- and forefoot plantarly. For post-operative recurrences of toe deformities, syndactily-operations are recommended.
