Primary tuberculosis of the nasopharynx with erythema induratum of Bazin.

A 44-year-old Japanese woman with primary tuberculosis of the nasopharynx associated with erythema induratum of Bazin (EI) is reported. The patient presented with erythematous nodules of the lower legs diagnosed as EI. Since EI is a tuberculosis-related skin disease, the presence of latent tuberculous lesions was investigated, and a tuberculous lesion was found in the nasopharynx. Primary tuberculosis of the nasopharynx is very rare. Furthermore, our review of the literature revealed no case in which nasopharyngeal tuberculosis acted as the latent focus of EI.

Pemphigus foliaceus of the footpads in three dogs.

Severe hyperkeratinization and villous hypertrophy of the footpads were seen in 3 middle-aged dogs. Peeling, fissuring, swelling, and ulcerations were noted on the margins of severely affected pads. Pain was evident in palpation and ambulation. Lesions were compatible with the traditional diagnosis of "hard pad disease". Histopathologic findings were diagnostic for canine pemphigus foliaceus in all 3 dogs, and direct immunofluorescence in an intercellular pattern was seen in both dogs that were tested. All 3 dogs responded to immunosuppressive dosages of corticosteroids.

Pharmacologic review: a review of the literature of ketoconazole therapy in the treatment of tinea pedis and onychomycosis.

Ketoconazole, an imidazole derivative, is the first encouraging new oral antimycotic in 20 years. Ketoconazole currently lacks Food and Drug Administration approval for treatment of dermatophytosis; however, it has demonstrated usefulness against a variety of fungal diseases, including tinea pedis, when griseofulvin has failed. The authors provide the reader with data from several studies on the medicinal therapy for dermatomycosis and onychomycosis, particularly where ketoconazole was utilized. Several studies utilizing other treatment modalities are also cited.

[Foot mycetoma of double etiology].

A patient coming from an area of dry tropical forest was studied. This patient had in his right foot two tumor-like growths localized, one in the anterior and superior part of the foot, the other near the malleoli. From the first tumor, light-colored grains were obtained, and Actinomadura madurae was cultured. From the tumor near the malleoli only black grains were isolated from which a Pyrenochaeta sp. was cultured.

Intralesional Interferon Alfa-2b Versus Cryotherapy for Common Warts on the Hands and Feet: A Randomized, Open-Label, Controlled Trial.

OBJECTIVE: To evaluate the clinical efficacy of interferon injection therapy for common warts on the hands and feet and to analyze its associated adverse reactions. METHODS: A total of 326 patients with common warts located on the hands and feet who were treated at our hospital between January 2024 and February 2025 were enrolled. Using a block randomization method, the patients were divided into a control group (n = 163, treated with cryotherapy) and an observation group (n = 163, treated with intralesional interferon alfa-2b injection). The two groups were compared in terms of clinical effi

Six-month open-label clinical study of a novel topical solution for mild distal lateral subungual onychomycosis.

Systemic antifungals such as terbinafine and itraconazole are often limited by drug interactions and side effects in the treatment of onychomycosis. We tested a new topical solution to address the clinical need for safer and more effective topical therapies. The solution (containing urea, lactic acid, ethoxydiglycol, decylene glycol, and polyquaternium-7) was applied twice daily for six months in a single-arm, open-label trial, enrolling 50 adult subjects with clinically diagnosed distal lateral subungual onychomycosis. Outcomes included a blinded investigator assessment, mycological evaluatio
