BACKGROUND: Recent-onset chronic pelvic pain thought to originate from an intraomental Dalkon Shield intrauterine device (IUD) (A. H. Robbins, Inc., Richmond, Virginia) that had remained asymptomatic for over 30 years is unusual. Case reports and patient series suggest that intraomental IUDs remain asymptomatic for long periods of time and are usually not associated with chronic pelvic pain.
CASE: A 49-year-old woman with an unrecollected history of Dalkon Shield placement 30 years earlier was evaluated after 6 months of pelvic pain. A negative workup and failure of conservative management pr

Laparoscopic cholecystectomy has now rapidly replaced open cholecystectomy. Rarely a calculus may arise from a metallic surgical clip migrated into the common bile duct (CBD) after this surgical procedure was performed. We report a 50-year-old man with CBD stone formed around a surgical clip, who had undergone a laparoscopic cholecystectomy because of acute calculous cholecystitis 14 months before. Abdominal CT revealed a single stone in mildly dilated CBD. A high density core within the CBD stone, was suspected to be a surgical clip. The stone was removed using a retrieval balloon catheter an

Visual rehabilitation after cataract surgery has been improved with the development of IOLs. These lenses are well tolerated in many uveitis patients when complete control of preoperative inflammation is achieved. However, in some patients, IOL placement after cataract extraction results in chronic inflammation, deposition of inflammatory cells and debris on the IOL surface, and inflammatory membrane formation despite antiinflammatory coverage. Patients with systemic diseases characterized by chronic inflammation, such as sarcoidosis and JRA, and those with chronic ocular inflammatory conditio

The authors present an account on a gunshot wound which penetrated into the lateral side of the distal chest on the right. They describe acute treatment of severe haemorrhagic shock by suture of a lacerated with liver segment and resection of the upper pole of the right kidney. The projectile was not searched for because of the patients general serious condition. After 30 days the patient was discharged in a good condition. Shortly after discharge, i.e. cca one month after the injury, the patient developed signs of chronic ischaemia of the left lower extremity-finally claudications after 150 m

In the period 1978-1990, 100 patients (44 males, 56 females) with various pathology, had a catheterisation of a central vein in the Hospital of Susa (TO). Subclavian vein was chosen with a percutaneous infraclavicular route. In 7 cases (7%) there were some mechanical complications, one of them was the accidental breakage of the catheter and its migration to the right heart. The authors describe this case and the possible cure by examining the most recent literature data.

Five cases of cervical perforation have been observed in women with a Copper-T IUCD, over a period of 5 yr. In all cases, the distal end of the stem (vertical limb) of the T had perforated through the cervical wall into one of the fornices of the vagina. Only 2 cases had symptoms leading to the discovery of the device, while the other 3 were discovered accidentally or on routine examination.

PURPOSE: The objective of this article is to report a case of silicone oil migration into intraocular packing in cases of retinal detachment, while reviewing the existing literature on the various mechanisms and locations of this migration. However, it is important to highlight that the use of this material is not free from complications.
METHODS: This article is a case report with a literature review. The information was obtained through a review of the medical record, interview, and photographic record of the patient's diagnostic methods. PubMed was used as a database to perform the search

BACKGROUND: Tracheostomy is commonly performed to maintain airway patency or to provide prolonged ventilatory support in elective and emergency settings. Although it offers substantial benefits, tracheostomy may be associated with early and late complications. Fracture and migration of a tracheostomy tube is exceptionally rare, with an incidence of less than 1 in 1000 cases. Such events can lead to life-threatening airway obstruction and present significant anesthetic and airway management challenges during retrieval.
CASE PRESENTATION: We report a 27-year-old male (weight 50 kg, height 172 c

A yearling, intact, apparently healthy male American black bear (Ursus americanus) died peracutely at a rehabilitation facility in Ontario, Canada while overwintering, after recovery from porcupine quilling a few months previously. The postmortem examination findings support that porcupine quill migration should be a differential for cause of sudden death in wildlife.

Stent migration is one of the common complications after tracheal stent implantation. The causes of stent migration include size mismatch between the stent and the trachea, physiological movement of the trachea, and so on. In order to solve the above problems, this study designed a non-uniform Poisson ratio tracheal stent by combining the size and structure of the trachea and the physiological movement of the trachea to improve the migration of the stent, meanwhile ensuring the support of the stent. In this study, the stent corresponding to cartilage was constructed with negative Poisson's rat

Proximal migration of double J (DJ) stent after pyeloplasty poses a difficult problem in infants whose small ureter renders retrograde ureteroscopic retrieval difficult. Previously described antegrade techniques used large access sheaths or blind removal under fluoroscopic guidance. We describe a technique for antegrade retrieval of the stent under direct vision. A 8F vascular access sheath is placed into the renal pelvis under ultrasound guidance. A 6F nephroscope with 3F forceps placed through the sheath grasps and retrieves the stent under direct visualization. This technique is simple, qui

INTRODUCTION: Lead migration has been regarded as a frequent complication after percutaneous spinal cord stimulation (SCS). Thus far, repeated reinsertion of leads or replacement of paddle electrodes after removing percutaneous leads has been performed, but a salvage surgical technique using the remaining electrode has not been reported. Here, we describe a case in which unilateral lead migration was successfully treated with the insertion of a paddle electrode.

OBJECTIVE: The objective of this article is to report the first case of intravesical IUD migration at our clinic and raise awareness of forgotten contraceptive devices and their potential complications.
METHODS: We report a case of a 67 year old female who had neglected to remove her IUD for 20 years. She visited our clinic because of recurrent UTI's the previous year. After assessment and clinical investigation it was found that the coil had a late onset migration to the urinary bladder, with calculus formation, causing the patients' symptoms. The encrusted intrauterine device was removed en

A 65-year-old comorbid female patient presented to our urology department with a history of multiple interventions to treat severe overactive bladder symptoms. She had a history of clam ileocystoplasty, which was then converted to an ileal conduit due to failure to resolve her symptoms. She subsequently developed multiple complications, most significantly ureteroileal stenosis, managed with bilateral ureteric stents. She later decided on bilateral nephrostomies and subsequent antegrade stent insertion. At follow-up, the proximal end of the left stent remained within the kidney and the distal e
