There have been very few reports in the literature of management of thoracolumbar fracture dislocations in very young children. The following is a presentation of one of these rare cases that was treated using a closed reduction method that has been little described in the medical literature. A 14-month-old child suffered a fracture dislocation at T(12)-L(1) from nonaccidental trauma. The patient was neurologically intact upon admission. Treatment consisted of closed manual reduction and hyperextension casting under sedation. At 22-month follow-up, the patient displayed excellent clinical and

Acute anterior tibialis tendon (ATT) rupture is a rare injury that may go unrecognized in the acute trauma setting, particularly when it co-occurs with a closed tibial shaft fracture. We report a case of complete ATT rupture in a 25-year-old male following a motorcycle accident causing a distal tibial shaft fracture. The rupture was identified intraoperatively; during distal locking screw placement, tendon-like fibers were observed through the surgical incision. Given this unexpected finding, the incision was extended to allow further exploration. Careful dissection revealed a complete rupture

BACKGROUND: Closed hand trauma is prevalent, and its management is healthcare service intensive. In the United Kingdom, persistent healthcare austerity and challenges of providing care compliant with national guidance are driving innovation in practice. Increasingly, advanced clinical practice hand therapists work in the fracture clinic performing assessment of closed hand trauma and deciding on surgical or nonsurgical treatment options.
PURPOSE: Reported is the codevelopment of a hand therapist--led closed hand trauma clinic, aiming to promote practice development internationally.

PURPOSE: Bone fracture is one of the most significant injuries of the body, which is usually caused by trauma. Astaxanthin (AST) showed beneficial effects on inflammation and oxidative stress, indicating protective effects on bone tissue. This study was performed with the aim of evaluating the effect of AST on the improvement of behavioral changes and the ossification process in the defect created in the femur of the rats.
METHODS: Animals were randomly divided into 3 groups, sham (healthy), control (bone fracture), and treatment. The sham group received water and normal food. In the control

BACKGROUND: Distal radial physeal fractures are the most common type of physeal fracture. However, few studies have been dedicated to the role of ultrasound-guided closed reduction in these fractures. This study aimed to investigate the utility of ultrasound-guided closed reduction in paediatric distal radial physeal fractures.
METHODS: Consecutive patients undergoing ultrasound-guided closed reduction of fractures in our department between November 2017 and October 2019 were included. The adequacy of realignment according to the ultrasound and radiography was recorded.
RESULTS: A total of 5

Joint replacements provide pain free movement for the injured or our aging population. Current prothesis mainly consist of hard metal on metal, or ceramic femoral head on ultra-high-molecular weight polyethylene (UHMWPE). In this study, a rodent fracture model was used to test the influence of wear debris from a high-performance polymer (polyimide MP-1™). Saline, MP-1™ Low Dose in Saline (1%), or MP-1 High Dose (2%) in Saline was injected directly into a standard closed unilateral femoral fracture in 12-week old Sprague Dawley rats (n = 25) for 1, 3 and 6 weeks. Acute popliteal artery thrombosis is a rare and limb-threatening traumatic event. It can lead to soft-tissue necrosis or even amputation of the lower limb. In patients suffering from trauma around the knee joint, the clinician should be highly vigilant to risk of popliteal artery acute thrombosis. It is essential to detect and treat acute popliteal artery thrombosis timely for limb salvaging. We present a case of acute popliteal artery thrombosis resulting from a closed comminuted tibia fracture and discuss its injury mechanism, diagnostic methods, and treatment measures.

INTRODUCTION: Ulnar nerve injury in closed both bone forearm fracture is rare. Most nerve injuries are neuropraxia and rarely the nerve is trapped or is transected. Most of the time recovery is spontaneous but sometimes requires surgical exploration. We are reporting a case of a 14-year-old boy with closed both bone forearm fracture with ulnar nerve palsy due to entrapment and laceration between ulnar bone fracture fragment.

The most frequent skeletal injuries are hand fractures, which constitute around 20% of all fractures. Fractures of the phalanx are usual, comprising 6% of all fractures. Proximal phalanx fractures arise more often. The main goals of the care are to repair the anatomy, reduce the damage to soft tissue, and mobilize the damaged fingers as soon as stabilization of the fracture allows it. The present report is intended to examine the clinical and radiation effects of proximal phalanx fractures in patients treated with intramedullary screw fixation who underwent closed reduction. We report three co

INTRODUCTION: Soft tissue swelling after acute fracture surgery is a challenge which may increase wound dehiscence, delay early range of motion, and increase infection rate postoperatively. This study investigates closed incision negative pressure therapy (ciNPT) using wide-range cover over the incision site and the peripheral swelling trauma zone to promote early active motion and to mitigate joint stiffness, bulla formation, and tendon adhesion.
METHODS: Twenty-nine patients were enrolled between January 2018 and December 2018. Patients with high-energy soft tissue trauma and comminuted fra

Supracondylar fracture of the humerus is a common displaced type childhood fracture that is treated by two methods. To compare open and closed methods of reduction with 2 cross k-wire fixation, a retrospective comparative study of 66 paediatric patients with type III supracondylar fracture of the humerus, who were treated in two different hospitals utilizing two different protocols, was conducted. Group 1 was treated with open reduction and 2 cross k-wire fixation, and group 2 received the closed reduction and k-wire fixation protocol. Functional and cosmetic assessments were conducted utilizi

In this case report, we present an acute rupture in the muscular tendinous junction of a posterior tibialis muscle in a bimalleolar closed ankle fracture after a high-energy trauma in a 30-year-old patient with no significant medical history. Fracture was confirmed by simple X-rays, and was treated with an open reduction in which both of the fractures were treated with osteosynthesis material and reparation of the syndesmosis. If left untreated, this uncommon finding can result in a bad postsurgical outcome; we believe this injury is more common but under-reported in the literature. The surgeo

BACKGROUND: Repairing orbital wall fractures can result in serious complications, including enophthalmos, diplopia, or even blindness. Especially, surgeons worry about damaging the optic nerve while dissecting the optic canal area. We avoid these complications by using a navigation system that was adapted to stereotactic concept based on three-dimensional imaging of the patient's anatomy. Here, we report 5 cases of orbital wall fracture that were repaired using a navigation system.
METHODS: The Navigation System II (Stryker, Freiburg, Germany) and the iNtellect Cranial Navigation (version 1.1
