OBJECTIVE: The primary objective of this study was to describe the musculoskeletal health of retired elite women's footballers, with a particular emphasis on hip, knee, and ankle pain and function.
METHODS: Retired elite women's footballers (18 years or older) were surveyed on their history of severe hip, knee, and ankle injuries, and previous joint surgery. Validated questionnaires (e.g. Knee Injury and Osteoarthritis Outcome Score Physical Function Short Form (KOOS-PS)) were used to assess health outcomes, such as level of function and pain.
RESULTS: Sixty-two respondents completed the sur

Competitive dancers have a high prevalence of hip injuries. The dancer's hip is a unique scenario in which hip impingement is associated with compensatory soft-tissue laxity. Particularly in these athletes, normal osseous hip morphology with symptomatic femoroacetabular impingement may be observed. The repetitive training, including extreme daily hip range of motion, results in compensatory soft-tissue laxity and secondary impingement-induced subluxation. Peculiarly, hip impingement in dancers occurs in the posterosuperior aspect of the hip and extra-articularly between the anterior inferior i…

INTRODUCTION: The implementation of various approaches in hip arthroplasties introduces distinct advantages and complications. Notably, widely adopted methods such as the posterior approach have been linked to elevated rates of posterior hip dislocations and iatrogenic sciatic nerve injuries, while the lateral approach has been associated with superior gluteal nerve injuries. In this study, we propose a refined modification of the McFarland and Osborne approach, aiming to amalgamate the most favorable aspects of prior modifications of the lateral approach to the hip. Additionally, our contribu

Hip labral tears are found in 22-55% of individuals with hip pain, but labral tears without cysts are usually not responsible for hip pain, which originates mostly from other structures than the torn labrum, like osteochondral, but also tendinous injuries (rectus femoris, gluteus minimus, iliopsoas) or capsulo-ligamentous tears (iliofemoral ligaments, ligament teres). Those lesions are mainly the consequences of underlying unrecognized functional acetabular dysplasia, and/or femoroacetabular impingements. Although the early repair of labral tears in young sportsmen induces a marked and lasting

Seventy to eighty percent of all anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) injuries are due to non-contact injury mechanisms. It has been reported that the majority of injuries due to single leg landing come from valgus positioning of the lower leg. Preventing valgus positioning during single leg landing is expected to help reduce the number of ACL injuries. We found that many ACL-deficient patients cannot perform stable single leg squatting. Therefore, we performed 3D motion analysis of the single-legged half squat for ACL-injured patients to evaluate its significance as a risk factor for ACL injuries
