Anterior segment optical coherence tomography (AS-OCT) was performed under standardised dark conditions. Silicone oil (SO) is a long-term intraocular tamponade used for a variety of retinal disorders. In aphakic eyes with an intact iris, the use of an inferior peripheral iridectomy prevents SO prolapse into the anterior chamber, thereby preventing glaucoma and keratopathy. PURPOSE: Novel plaques are used to treat iris melanoma at the Mayo Clinic Rochester. The plaques are a modification of the Collaborative Ocular Melanoma Study (COMS) 22 mm plaque design with a gold alloy backing, outer lip, and silicone polymer insert. An inner lip surrounds a 10 mm diameter cutout region at the plaque center. Plaques span 360°, 270°, and 180° arcs. Chromosome 13q deletion syndrome is characterized by growth retardation, cognitive delays, and organ and musculoskeletal deformities. Typical ocular associations include retinoblastoma, microphthalmia, and colobomas. We report a case of bilateral iris heterochromia and retinal pigment abnormalities in a child with 13q-syndrome.

PURPOSE: To describe progressive enlargement of intralesional cavities within a mass that masqueraded clinically as an iris pigment epithelial cyst for 2 years but later proved to be a melanoma.
METHODS: An 81-year-old woman developed asymptomatic focal elevation of the iris, and ultrasound biomicroscopy showed a fluid-filled mass that was interpreted as an iris pigment epithelial cyst. Over a 2-year period of observation, the cavity enlarged from 0.7 to 10 mm, and the solid component enlarged from approximately 6 to 16 mm basal dimension.

OBJECTIVE: To correlate ultrasound biomicroscopic images of iris and ciliary body melanomas with their histopathologic features.
METHODS: Ultrasound biomicroscopy was performed in 3 cases of iris melanoma and in 3 cases of ciliary body melanoma. Cross-sectional ultrasound biomicroscopic images were compared with findings from clinical examination and light microscopy to evaluate associations between their histopathologic, surface, and internal ultrasound characteristics.
