[Medial collateral ligament bracing].

OBJECTIVE: Addressing all injured structures and medial stabilization against both valgus stress and rotation. INDICATIONS: Acute, isolated medial collateral ligament (MCL) rupture grade III (especially distal and midsubstance rupture) and combined injuries/multiligamentary injury. CONTRAINDICATIONS: Contraindications are chronic medial instability or rotational instability with indication for medial reconstruction as well as intolerance/allergy to material or other injuries requiring soft tissue consolidation/other operations (open wounds in the surgical area, fracture especially in the are

Falciform ligament abscess management.

Falciform ligament abscess (FLA) is a rare occurrence as a consequence of local inflammation. This report presents a case of FLA on a background of recent cholangitis and laparoscopic cholecystectomy complicated by superficial umbilical wound infection. Diagnosis was by clinical examination and CT imaging. Management was by laparoscopic drainage.

Anatomy and morphology of iliolumbar ligament.

PURPOSE: To address limited amount of available data and contradictory statements in published works 60 Iliolumbar ligaments extracted from 30 cadavers were examined to describe their insertions and morphology. METHODS: The ligaments were removed during the standard autopsy procedures with a use of an oscillating saw, a chisel and a scalpel. The specimens were photographed before the extraction and measured alongside their anterior margin. Next, they were preserved in formaldehyde, stripped of other soft tissues and then examined, photographed and described. RESULTS: The mean length of the l…

Operative Management: Spring Ligament.

Pes planovalgus is a multiplanar deformity consisting of a combination of hindfoot valgus, collapse of the medial longitudinal arch, forefoot varus, and forefoot abduction. This deformity is often associated with posterior tibial tendon dysfunction. Collapse of the medial longitudinal arch increases stress to the static stabilizers of the medial column including the deltoid ligament, spring ligament, plantar fascia, plantar and talocalcaneal interosseous ligaments, as well as the talonavicular and naviculocuneiform capsules. There is a higher incidence of concomitant spring ligament pathology …

The patellar ligament: A comprehensive review.

The patellar ligament (PL) is an epiphyseal ligament and is part of the extensor complex of the knee. The ligament has gained attention due to its clinical relevance to autograft and tendinopathy. A variety of anatomical variations of the PL such as aplasia, numerical variations, and vascularity are being reported recently by clinicians and anatomists. The aim of this literature was to review the available literature to provide a consensus regarding anatomic variations of the PL, neurovasculature surrounding the PL, histology of the PL, and various aspects of PL measurements with relevance to

Multiple Ligament Knee Reconstructions.

Patients with multiligament knee injuries require a thorough examination (Lachman, posterior-drawer, varus, valgus, and rotational testing). Diagnoses are confirmed with magnetic resonance imaging as well as stress radiographs (posterior, varus, and valgus) when indicated. Multiple systematic reviews have reported that early (<3 weeks after injury) single-stage surgery and early knee motion improves patient-reported outcomes. Anatomic-based reconstructions of the torn primary static stabilizers and repair of the capsular structures and any tendinous avulsions are performed in a single-stage. O

[Sport wrist ligament injuries].

The wrist is a joint structure particularly exposed during sports practice to trauma or overuse. Ligament trauma is particularly common as well as tendinopathies. A rigorous clinical examination is the key to the management of the sports patient. The additional examinations will confirm the diagnosis and help guide the management. The purpose of the treatment in the athlete will depend on his sports activity, his age, the sport, the time between the accident and the sports season.

Acute Ligament Injuries of the Elbow.

Ulnar collateral, radial collateral, lateral ulnar collateral, and annular ligaments can be injured in an acute trauma, such as valgus stress in athletes and elbow dislocation. Recognizing normal anatomy in magnetic resonance imaging and ultrasonography studies is important to identify ligamentous abnormalities in these imaging modalities.

Morphological characteristics of the Lisfranc ligament.

BACKGROUND: This study aimed to clarify the morphological characteristics of the Lisfranc ligament and the cuneiform 1-metatarsal 2&3 plantar ligament (CMPL). METHODS: Forty legs from 20 cadavers were examined. Classification proceeded according to the number of fiber bundles in the Lisfranc ligament and the CMPL. Morphological features measured were fiber bundle length, width, thickness, and angle. RESULTS: In Type I-a, the Lisfranc ligament and the CMPL were a single fiber bundle; in Type I-b, the Lisfranc ligament was a single fiber bundle, and the CMPL was two fiber bundles; in Type II-a
