Thermo-induced modifications and selective accumulation of glucose-conjugated magnetic nanoparticles in vivo in rats - increasing the effectiveness of magnetic-assisted therapy - pilot study.

Ferro-Magnetic nanoparticles (Fe-MNP) have gained a lot of attention in biomedical and industrial applications due to their biocompatibility, ease of surface modification and paramagnetic properties. The basic idea of our study is whether it is possible to use glucose-conjugate Fe-MNP (Glc-Fe-MNP) for targeting and more accurate focusing in order to increase the effect of high-frequency electromagnetic fields induced hyperthermia in solid tumors. Tumors demonstrate high metabolic activity for glucose in comparison with other somatic cells.Increasing of accumulation of glucose conjugated (Glc)-

Rapid Legionella pneumophila determination based on a disposable core-shell Fe₃O₄@poly(dopamine) magnetic nanoparticles immunoplatform.

A novel amperometric magnetoimmunoassay, based on the use of core-shell magnetic nanoparticles and screen-printed carbon electrodes, was developed for the selective determination of Legionella pneumophila SG1. A specific capture antibody (Ab) was linked to the poly(dopamine)-modified magnetic nanoparticles (MNPs@pDA-Ab) and incubated with bacteria. The captured bacteria were sandwiched using the antibody labeled with horseradish peroxidase (Ab-HRP), and the resulting MNPs@pDA-Ab-Legionella neumophila-Ab-HRP were captured by a magnetic field on the electrode surface. The amperometric response m

[Dispersive solid phase microextraction of vanillins in milk using magnetic nanoparticles of ferroferric oxide/carbon nanotubes combining with high performance liquid chromatography analysis].

Magnetic nanoparticles of ferroferric oxide/carbon nanotubes (Fe3O4/CNTs) were synthesized by chemically bonding single-walled carbon nanotubes (SWCNTs) to the Fe3O4 nanoparticles. The pretreated carboxyl SWCNTs were modified on the surface of amino-functioned Fe3O4 nanoparticles through the cross-linking reaction between 1-ethyl-3-( 3-dimethylaminopropyl) carbodiimide (EDC) and N-hydroxysuccinimide (NHS). The synthesized Fe3O4/CNTs nanoparticles presented high super paramagnetic property and good dispersion ability, and were considered as good candidate adsorbents for dispersive solid phase m

Thermally cross-linked superparamagnetic iron oxide nanoparticles: synthesis and application as a dual imaging probe for cancer in vivo.

We report the fabrication and characterization of thermally cross-linked superparamagnetic iron oxide nanoparticles (TCL-SPION) and their application to the dual imaging of cancer in vivo. Unlike dextran-coated cross-linked iron oxide nanoparticles, which are prepared by a chemical cross-linking method, TCL-SPION are prepared by a simple, thermal cross-linking method using a Si-OH-containing copolymer. The copolymer, poly(3-(trimethoxysilyl)propyl methacrylate-r-PEG methyl ether methacrylate-r-N-acryloxysuccinimide), was synthesized by radical polymerization and used as a coating material for

Nanozyme-Mediated Anesthetic Drug Delivery and Macrophage Immunomodulation: Emerging Concepts and Translational Challenges.

Anesthetic agents can influence not only neuronal signaling but also oxidative stress, inflammasome activation, cellular metabolism, and perioperative immune responses. Macrophages are central regulators of tissue injury, inflammation resolution, neuroimmune interactions, and the tumor microenvironment, and therefore represent a plausible target for non-neuronal effects of anesthetic therapy. Nanozymes are nanomaterials with intrinsic enzyme-like catalytic activity; representative systems include cerium oxide and magnetite/iron-oxide nanoparticles with superoxide dismutase-, catalase-, peroxid

Magnetotaxis in an anaerobic ciliate via tripartite syntrophy.

Magnetotaxis has evolved independently numerous times in bacteria, whereby genetically controlled biomineralization of nano-crystalline magnets results in swimming along Earth's magnetic field lines. Compared to magnetotactic bacteria (MTB), evolutionary mechanisms of magnetotaxis as a trait in eukaryotes remain poorly understood. Here, we report a magnetotactic ciliate, Tropidoatractus magnetotacticus sp. nov., that acquires magnetotaxis via syntrophy. T. magnetotacticus exhibits magnetotaxis due to the magnetic moment of internal ferrimagnetic magnetite (Fe3O4) nanoparticles forming ellipsoi

Anti-CD44 antibodies grafted immunoaffinity Fe3O4@MnO2 nanozymes with highly oxidase-like catalytic activity for specific detection of triple-negative breast cancer MDA-MB-231 cells.

Cell-enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (CELISA) is extensively applied for cancer diagnosis and screening because of its simple operation, high sensitivity, and intuitive color change. However, the unstable horseradish peroxidase (HRP), hydrogen peroxide (H2O2) and non-specificity have led to a high false negative rate, which limits its application. In this study, we have developed an innovative immunoaffinity nanozyme aided CELISA based on anti-CD44 monoclonal antibodies (mAbs) bioconjugated manganese dioxide-modified magnetite nanoparticles (Fe3O4@MnO2 NPs) for the specific detection of trip…

Surfactant-Modified Magnetic Nanoparticles Enable Efficient and Cost-Effective Plasma Proteomics for Enhanced Biomarker Discovery.

The application of more blood proteins into health risk prediction and disease diagnostics has long garnered significant interest. However, comprehensive profiling of proteins in blood samples (plasma or serum), particularly low-abundance proteins, remains technically challenging due to the masking effect imposed by high-abundance proteins and the extraordinarily wide dynamic range of protein abundances. Herein, we developed an efficient strategy that leveraged the protein corona formed on surfactant-modified magnetic nanoparticles for the selective enrichment of low-abundance plasma proteins.

Early and sensitive diagnosis of celiac autoimmune disease by using carboxylic acid functionalized magnetic nanoparticles-assisted biosensing platform.

A novel impedimetric magneto-immunosensor based on iron oxide (Fe3O4) nanoparticles coated with 3-phosphonopropionic acid (3-PPA) (functionalized magnetic beads, or FMBs) was created for the highly sensitive and selective detection of anti-tissue transglutaminase antibody (anti-tTG) in human serum. This label-less immunosensor was introduced by magnetically attaching FMBs onto the working electrode surface with a neodium magnet. The FMBs were utilized as a sensing interface and had carboxylic acid groups for tTG molecules, which could selectively link the target anti-tTG antibody. The FMBs mod

Magnetic Force Enhances Pharmacologic Thrombolysis by Unlocking the "Knob-Hole" Structure of Fibrin.

Thrombosis is a prevalent pathology underlying cardiovascular diseases, and pharmacologic thrombolysis is widely used in clinical. However, the dense structure of the fibrin network restricts the penetration and mobility of thrombolytic drugs within the thrombus, thereby reducing their efficiency. Disrupting the integrity of the thrombus requires high energy and generates small pieces of thrombus that increase the risk of pulmonary embolism. Here, it is demonstrated that applying a magnetic force at the pN level to unlock the "knob-hole" structure of fibrin disrupts the dense and stable mechan

Development of a concentration method for simple and sensitive detection of SARS-CoV-2 in saliva using a magnetic nanoparticle kit.

BACKGROUND: When diagnosing viral infections in humans and animals, the presence of virus in a sample in trace amounts that are below the analytical sensitivity of the detection system may cause false negative results and inaccurate diagnosis. We previously reported the development of a simple virion concentration technique using 12 ml large-volume samples that can dramatically improve diagnostic sensitivity by increasing analytical sensitivity by 100-fold over conventional methods. The present study was conducted to further improve the simplicity and versatility of this method. We constructed
