BACKGROUND: Stem cell sheets provide a scaffold-free option for the promotion of graft healing after anterior cruciate ligament reconstruction (ACLR). However, cell viability, stability, and potential uncontrolled actions create challenges for clinical translation. The decellularization of cell sheets may overcome these problems as studies have shown that the natural extracellular matrix of stem cells is bioactive and can promote tissue repair.
HYPOTHESIS: The decellularized tendon-derived stem cell (dTDSC) sheet can promote graft healing after ACLR.

METHODS: A prospective study of 72 workers examined over a 5.8 +/- 1.9 year period. A sample of induced sputum for cells and mediators was obtained in 69 subjects at baseline (Vb) and in 36 both at Vb and at follow-up (Vf).

BACKGROUND: A distinction between noninvasive, invasive, and metastatic thymoma on the basis of the cytologic features is difficult. The current study investigated whether the expression of MMP and TIMP was correlated with tumor invasiveness and prognosis in patients with thymoma.
METHODS: Tumor tissue samples were obtained from 42 patients with thymic epithelial tumors between 1974 and 2001 at Tokushima University Hospital. To investigate mechanisms of tissue fibrosis, we developed a model of ovine fetal bladder fibrosis due to surgically induced obstruction. Tissues were analyzed for matrix metalloproteinases (MMPs) and their inhibitors, the tissue inhibitors of metalloproteinases (TIMPs).
