Peripapillary Vessel Density in Young Patients with Open-Angle Glaucoma: Comparison between High-Tension and Normal-Tension Glaucoma.

Although primary open-angle glaucoma (OAG) generally occurs in older individuals and manifests in eyes with elevated intraocular pressure (IOP), it may also occur in young patients or in eyes with an IOP that always measures within the statistically normal range. Recent advances in optical coherence tomography angiography have enabled noninvasive visualization of the vasculature around the optic disc. In this study, we investigated the clinical features of young Korean patients with OAG and compared the peripapillary vessel density of patients with normal-tension glaucoma (NTG) to those with h

Alginate plasma expander maintains perfusion and plasma viscosity during extreme hemodilution.

Extreme hemodilution was performed in the hamster chamber window model using 6% Dextran 70, lowering systemic hematocrit by 60%. Animals were subsequently divided into three groups and hemodiluted to a hematocrit of 11% using 6% Dextran 70, 6% Dextran 500, and a 4% Dextran 70 + 0.7% alginate solution (n = 6 each group). Final plasma viscosities were 1.4 +/- 0.2, 2.2 +/- 0.1, and 2.7 +/- 0.2 cp, respectively, (P < 0.05, high viscosity vs. low viscosity). Blood viscosities were 2.1 +/- 0.2, 2.9 +/- 0.4, and 3.9 +/- 0.3 cp, respectively. The lowest blood and plasma viscosity group had a significa

Macro- and microcirculatory assessment of cold sensitivity after traumatic finger amputation and microsurgical replantation.

INTRODUCTION: Finger replantations after traumatic amputation are associated with good prognosis and acceptable functional results. However, cold sensitivity is a common and sometimes disabling sequelae after digital replantation. The exact causes of cold intolerance are still unclear; neural as well as vascular mechanisms have been discussed. We examined the macro- and microvascular performance of replanted fingers using high-resolution color-coded sonography for the assessment of skin vessel density of the fingertips as well as nailfold capillary microscopy and laser Doppler anemometry. Microvascular changes in children with MIS-C: a monocentric exploratory study using comparative nailfold capillaroscopy.

BACKGROUND: Multisystem Inflammatory Syndrome in Children (MIS-C) is a severe hyperinflammatory condition that arises after SARS-CoV-2 infection and may lead to endothelial dysfunction and microvascular damage. Despite increasing knowledge on systemic manifestations, microcirculatory involvement in MIS-C remains underexplored. OBJECTIVE: To evaluate nailfold capillaroscopy (NFC) findings in children diagnosed with MIS-C and compare them with age- and sex-matched healthy controls, thereby assessing subclinical microvascular alterations associated with MIS-C. METHODS: In this cross-sectional s

Optical Coherence Tomography and Optical Coherence Tomography-Angiography Chronic Changes in End-Stage Renal Disease: A Systematic Review.

Background/Objectives: End-stage renal disease (ESRD) is characterized by profound and progressive microvascular dysfunction that contributes significantly to systemic morbidity. Because the retinal and renal microcirculations share structural and physiological similarities, optical coherence tomography (OCT) and OCT angiography (OCTA) have emerged as promising tools for detecting ocular microvascular changes that may parallel systemic vascular injury. This systematic review aimed to consolidate evidence on chronic retinal and choroidal alterations in ESRD as assessed by OCT and OCTA. Methods:

Peripheral microvascular function is linked to cardiac involvement on cardiovascular magnetic resonance in systemic sclerosis-related pulmonary arterial hypertension.

AIMS: Systemic sclerosis (SSc) is characterized by vasculopathy, inflammation, and fibrosis, and carries one of the worst prognoses if patients also develop pulmonary arterial hypertension (PAH). Although PAH is a known prognosticator, patients with SSc-PAH demonstrate disproportionately high mortality, presumably due to cardiac involvement. In this cross-sectional study, the relationship between cardiac involvement revealed by cardiovascular magnetic resonance (CMR) and systemic microvascular disease severity measured with nailfold capillaromicroscopy (NCM) in patients with SSc-PAH is evaluat

Comparison of foveal optical coherence tomography angiography findings between premature children with ROP and non-premature healthy children.

PURPOSE: Our aim is to compare foveal microvascular structure, foveal retinal thickness, and best-corrected visual acuity (BCVA) in children with a history of premature retinopathy (ROP) and healthy children. It is also evaluated whether microvascular structural changes in the course of ROP had resulted from treatment modalities of ROP or the disease itself. METHODS: This is a cross-sectional observational comparative study. Seventy-one children were analyzed in four different groups: children treated with bevacizumab (18), or laser (19) for ROP; or spontaneously regressed disease (18) and no
