Risk coupling analysis of ship-source marine pollution accidents based on the N-K model and dynamic Bayesian network.

Ship-source marine pollution accidents often occur suddenly and may result in spatially widespread and persistent environmental consequences. Their formation generally involves interactions among human, ship, environmental, and management factors. Based on 537 maritime accidents involving pollution or presenting explicit pollution risks, this study establishes a four-dimensional risk-factor system comprising 11 basic nodes and develops an integrated N-K-DBN framework. First, the N-K model is used to calculate coupling frequencies and coupling intensities for different combinations of risk fact

Multilevel barriers to dog rabies vaccination uptake in Kilosa District, Tanzania.

Barriers to dog vaccination in Tanzania in general, and in Kilosa District in particular, are not well understood. Therefore, this study sought to address the following research question: What are the multilevel barriers to the vaccination of dogs against rabies in Kilosa District? Guided by a socioecological model, the study explored the barriers to dog vaccination at multiple levels within the Kilosa District context. A case study design employing a qualitative research approach was used. Data were collected through focus group discussions (FGDs) and in-depth interviews to investigate contex

Queueing Theory and COVID-19 Prevention: Model Proposal to Maximize Safety and Performance of Vaccination Sites.

INTRODUCTION: COVID-19 (Coronavirus Disease 19) has rapidly spread all around the world. Vaccination represents one of the most promising counter-pandemic measures. There is still little specific evidence in literature on how to safely and effectively program access and flow through specific healthcare settings to avoid overcrowding in order to prevent SARS-CoV-2 transmission. Literature regarding appointment scheduling in healthcare is vast. Unpunctuality however, especially when targeting healthcare workers during working hours, is always possible. Therefore, when determining how many subjec

Moral distress and moral injury among nurses in German acute inpatient care - a cross-sectional study.

BACKGROUND: Moral suffering in health care is increasingly a focus of research. The extent of and relationship between two distinct forms of moral suffering, namely, moral injury (MI) and moral distress (MD), has not yet been studied in nurses in acute inpatient care in Germany. OBJECTIVES: This study aims to examine the severity of MI and MD in the context of organizational support, the correlation between the two constructs, and the variables associated with the extent of MD and MI. METHODS: We conducted a cross-sectional study including 1323 nurses employed in German hospitals. The data w

A Correlational Examination of Person-Centered Care, Critical Reflection, and the Nursing Work Environment: Evidence From Iranian Teaching Hospitals.

AIM: This study aimed to determine the extent to which critical reflection competency (CRC) and a healthy work environment (HWE) predict person-centered care (PCC) among nurses in Iranian teaching hospitals. BACKGROUND: PCC is a fundamental model in healthcare, yet its implementation faces persistent challenges. Critical reflection and a supportive work environment are key factors that may influence care quality, but their simultaneous contribution to PCC dimensions remains underexplored. METHODS: This cross-sectional study was conducted across four Iranian teaching hospitals with a sample o

Occupational injury and job esteem in relation to burnout dimensions among nurses in Beijing: a cross-sectional study.

BACKGROUND: Burnout threatens nurses' well-being and the sustainability of healthcare delivery. Occupational injury may contribute to burnout, whereas job esteem may provide an important professional resource; however, their associations with specific burnout dimensions remain unclear. This study examined the associations of occupational injury and job esteem with emotional exhaustion, depersonalization, and personal accomplishment among nurses. METHODS: A cross-sectional survey was conducted from January 2023 to September 2024 among 3,654 nurses from 14 hospitals in Beijing. Burnout was asse

Telemedicine in the Management of Arterial Hypertension in Rural Populations: A Narrative Review.

Background: Arterial hypertension is one of the most prevalent chronic non-communicable diseases and a leading cause of cardiovascular morbidity and mortality worldwide. Its burden remains particularly high in rural and resource-limited settings, where access to healthcare is often constrained by shortages of healthcare professionals, geographical barriers, and underdeveloped infrastructure. These factors may contribute to delayed diagnosis, suboptimal disease control, and increased risk of complications. In this context, telemedicine has emerged as a useful approach to supporting hypertension

Representational Similarity of Body Parts in Human Occipitotemporal Cortex.

Regions in human lateral and ventral occipitotemporal cortices (OTC) respond selectively to pictures of the human body and its parts. What are the organizational principles underlying body part responses in these regions? Here we used representational similarity analysis (RSA) of fMRI data to test multiple possible organizational principles: shape similarity, physical proximity, cortical homunculus proximity, and semantic similarity. Participants viewed pictures of whole persons, chairs, and eight body parts (hands, arms, legs, feet, chests, waists, upper faces, and lower faces). The similarit

Dialogic communication and audience engagement in Hispanic health marketing on X: A computational analysis.

This study investigated the overarching themes and dialogic features of the three national-level Hispanic health organizations (i.e., NHMA, NAHH, NHHF). The focus is on how these health organizations utilize social media for Hispanic health and how the themes and dialogic features are associated with public engagement on social media. To achieve this, the study employed structural topic modeling on 18,430 X posts from 2018 to 2023 and negative binomial regression to predict user amplification engagement (e.g., liking, sharing). The study identified four broad thematic areas: health equity and

Embracing the DIGNITY of Resident Relationships: A Case Study of the Decision-Making in Aging and Dementia for Autonomy (DIGNITY) Protocol.

Public policies governing U.S. nursing homes emphasize resident rights, autonomy, and person-centered care, yet translating these principles into everyday practice remains challenging - particularly for residents living with dementia whose preferences involve perceived risk. Regulatory requirements, liability concerns, and inconsistent interpretations of decision-making capacity often constrain staff ability to honor resident choice. This case study examines the application of the Decision-making in Aging and Dementia for Autonomy (DIGNITY) protocol, a structured, evidence-based framework desi

Histomorphological characterization of major tissues and organ systems in neotenic Ambystoma mexicanum.

Ambystoma mexicanum has emerged as an important experimental model in regenerative biology due to its remarkable regenerative capacity and neotenic condition. Although histological descriptions of several organs have been previously reported, an integrative characterization of the tissues and organ systems of neotenic axolotls remains limited. To investigate the structural features and cellular organization of axolotl organs, we applied a systematic histological approach with comparative perspectives. Organ samples from neotenic axolotls were processed using conventional histological technique

Creating a culture of change through implementation of a safe patient handling program.

Health care professionals have a high risk for being injured while moving patients manually. The University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics (UIHC) realized a need to reduce injuries suffered during patient movement. A UIHC multidisciplinary task force consulted the latest research, trialed products, and involved employees in selecting equipment for and implementing a safe patient handling program. This program resulted in a 76% reduction in lost workdays and an 85% reduction in workers' compensation costs. The keys to this program were involving employees, partnering with a key vendor, engaging
