Although mucormycosis is an important cause of morbidity and mortality in children with cancer, our understanding of the typical characteristics of these infections is incomplete. We report the computed tomographic appearance of invasive fungal disease of the paranasal sinuses in 13 patients. Coronal and axial computed tomographic images were obtained in each patient and data were analysed. In the study of disseminated fungal infection, in consecutive autopsy cases between 1974 and 1982, we have found this infection in 20 cases (2.55% in all autopsy cases and 16.8% of deep-seated fungal infection). BACKGROUND: The most common aetiological agents of mucormycosis are Rhizopus, Mucor, Apophysomyces and Lichtheimia. Apophysomyces is comparatively rare, as it has been reported in less than 3% of mucormycosis cases. OBJECTIVES: This study aimed to investigate the frequency, seasonal variation and antifungal susceptibility of pathogenic Mucorales in the soil collected from seven hospitals in Urmia, Iran, between November 2017 and July 2018 in four different seasons.
