BACKGROUND: Pulmonary nodules are a common cause for concern in patients with human immunodeficiency virus and acquired immunodeficiency syndrome. Most commonly, they are the result of an infection, given the patients' immunocompromised state; however, in some cases, pulmonary nodules in patients with human immunodeficiency virus and patients with acquired immunodeficiency syndrome can result from cellular or protein deposits. We report a rare case of nodular pulmonary light chain deposition disease in a patient with acquired immunodeficiency syndrome and monoclonal gammopathy of undetermined

INTRODUCTION AND IMPORTANCE: We report the case of a 40-year-old asymptomatic woman with incidentally detected primary pulmonary meningioma (PPM), underscoring its relevance in the differential diagnosis of solitary pulmonary nodules.
CASE PRESENTATION: A 40-year-old asymptomatic woman was found to have a left subpleural pulmonary nodule (11 × 9 × 8 mm) on routine follow-up imaging. Computed tomography findings and a preoperative needle biopsy suggested a diagnosis of meningioma. Video-assisted thoracoscopic resection of the left lower lobe was performed, and histopathological examination con

Background The widespread adoption of low-dose CT has increased the detection of small pure ground-glass nodules (pGGNs). The management of this type of nodule currently remains a clinical challenge. Purpose To characterize long-term growth trajectories of incidental small pGGNs, identify risk factors for nodule growth and progression, and assess the reproducibility of these findings in an independent cohort. Materials and Methods This retrospective study included patients with incidental small pGGNs (<10 mm) detected with low-dose chest CT during routine wellness assessments at Taizhou Hospit

BACKGROUND: Precise preoperative localization is crucial for improving the success rate and reducing the duration of thoracoscopic surgeries. This study aimed to evaluate the efficacy, safety, and patient perception of the four-hook localization needle compared to the traditional double-hook localization needle in the localization of pulmonary nodules.
METHODS: We conducted a retrospective analysis of 207 patients who underwent video-assisted thoracoscopic surgery (VATS). Seventy-six patients used a four-hook localization needle preoperatively, while 121 patients used the traditional double-h

We describe the clinical efficacy of coil localization (CL) assisted video-assisted thoracoscopic surgery (VATS) wedge resection (WR) for pulmonary nodules (PNs) in patients having a history of malignancy. In a total of 16 patients having PNs and malignant history, treatment was carried out using computed tomography (CT)-guided CL and subsequent VATS-guided WR procedures from November 2015 to December 2019. Technical success of CL, WR, and long-term outcomes was analyzed.A total of 21 PNs were localized (1.3 PNs per patient). A 100% technical success rate was achieved in this study for CT-guide

Solitary fibrous tumours (SFTs) are a heterogeneous group of rare spindle-cell tumours. Classically they presented as a solitary pleural-based mass. Pulmonary parenchymal SFT is rare and multiple bilateral lesions are extremely rare. We present the clinical, imaging and histological features of SFT which are presented as multiple nodular lesions of the lung and pleura with probable distant metastasis.

BACKGROUND: Lung cancer is the malignant tumor with the highest morbidity and mortality in China. Low-dose computed tomography (LDCT) is the core method for early lung cancer screening, but traditional fixed-institution screening has the problem of insufficient accessibility at the grassroots level. This study aims to evaluate the detection characteristics and influencing factors of pulmonary nodules by mobile LDCT combined with artificial intelligence (AI) in urban communities of Wuhan, and conduct a preliminary cost analysis from the health system perspective, so as to provide scientific bas

Clear cell tumor (CCT) of the lung is very rare, and angiomyolipoma (AML) of the liver is also very rare. Both CCT and AML have been identified as a group of neoplasms with perivascular epithelioid cell differentiation (PEComa). We report a case with multiple PEComas of a combination of CCT of the lung and AML of the liver. The patient underwent surgical resection of an abnormal nodule of the lung 5 years after treatment of AML of the liver. The histological diagnosis of the pulmonary nodule was CCT. Neither lesion demonstrated malignant phenotypes, such as high mitotic activity, necrosis, or

The authors report the high-resolution computed tomography (HRCT) appearance of diffuse pulmonary involvement by mycosis fungoides in a 74-year-old woman whose clinical and radiographic manifestations simulated pneumonia. The HRCT showed multiple, dense, peribronchovascular nodules with surrounding ground-glass opacity and several wedge-shape peripheral opacities. The autopsy specimen revealed angiocentric and peribronchovascular involvement of mycosis fungoides and pulmonary infarctions distal to angiocentric infiltration of the tumor cells.

Pulmonary embolism due to hydatid disease has been rare clinically. Here we present a patient case who suffered from multiple cystic hydatidosis within bilateral lung parenchyma and complicated bilateral pulmonary embolisms. The case was a 70-year-old man who complained of an increasingly severe cough and hemoptysis post-operation of hepatic hydatid cyst. Chest radiographs showed that the patient had multiple nodules in the bilateral chest. Computed tomography (CT) depicted that some lesions were multivesicular cysts and some consisting of sophisticated complications. CT pulmonary angiography

A 29-year-old woman with an unusual form of pulmonary metastasis from epithelioid sarcoma of the right forearm is presented. Since she manifested left pneumothorax due to metastatic pulmonary cyst 7 years ago, the only metastatic manifestation has been the presence of bilateral multiple thin-walled pulmonary cysts; no other types of pulmonary lesions, such as nodules, cavitary lesions with thick or irregular walls, or extrapulmonary metastases, have been found. Pathologic studies revealed metastatic proliferation of sarcoma cells in the wall of the pulmonary cysts and infiltration of malignant

Langerhans cell histiocytosis presents with involvement of skin, bone and lungs. We discuss this case of breast LCH who developed pulmonary cystic lesions leading to bilateral pneumothoraces. PET scan showed involvement of thyroid and marrow involvement. A new nodule developed at ICD site after 9 months and was diagnosed as LCH nodule. This could be because of seeding of LCH cells at ICD site. We review LCH with involvement of multiple systems.

We investigated 15 pulmonary cryptococcosis patients. The group had a mean age of 51.7 years, and 6 (40%) of the patients were women. Cryptococcosis was primary in 13 patients and secondary in 2 (diabetes mellitus and smoldering adult T-cell leukemia). Eight patients were asymptomatic and 9 patients were detected by medical examinations. Dry cough was the most common symptoms. On chest radiographs, 5 patients showed solitary nodules, 4 patients showed infiltrative shadows, and 4 patients showed multiple nodules. The right lower lobe was the predominant location of solitary nodules, and the lef

A 57-year-old man with fever-up and multiple nodules in the peripheral area of the lungs on the chest CT was referred to the department of respiratory medicine of our hospital for further examination. The whole body CT disclosed a space-occupying lesion in the left frontal lobe of his brain, an irregular mass in the left kidney, and swelling of paraaortic lymph nodes. A pathological diagnosis could not be made from the results of the bronchoscopic examination and percutaneous needle biopsy for the renal mass. Left nephrectomy and lymph node dissection were carried out because of possible renal

The CT findings of six patients (three symptomatic and three asymptomatic) with pulmonary paragonimiasis westermani were reviewed in correlation with the findings of radiography. Pleural changes were recognized in all cases on CT. In addition to pleural fluid collection and hydropneumothorax, which were demonstrated on plain radiograph, CT showed minimal pleural thickening and adhesion adjacent to the parenchymal lesions. CT showed round nodules of lower attenuation within a subpleural consolidation of triangular shape in two patients. Small air-filled cavities in a parenchymal lesion with cen

Malignant pulmonary nodules (PNs) are often accompanied by vascular dilatation and structural abnormalities. Pulmonary transit time (PTT) measurement by contrast echocardiograghy has used to assess the cardiopulmonary function and pulmonary vascular status, such as hepatopulmonary syndrome and pulmonary arteriovenous fistula, but has not yet been attempted in the diagnosis and differential diagnosis of PNs. The aim of this work was to evaluate the feasibility and performance of myocardial contrast echocardiography (MCE) for differentiating malignant PNs from benign ones. The study population c

Cryptococcosis is an invasive fungal infection, which is more common in immunocompromised patients. However, pulmonary cryptococcosis can occur in immunocompetent patients and should be considered on a differential diagnosis for nodular or mass-like lesions in chest radiograph. Recently, we experienced a patient with pulmonary cryptococcosis, successfully treated with oral fluconazole therapy. A 74-year-old female patient was referred for an evaluation of abnormal images, a large consolidative mass with multiple nodular consolidations and small nodules that mimics primary lung cancer with mult
