Stress management: a program designed to facilitate coping.

1. Continual exposure to work-related stressors compounds nurses' workloads, increases their stress levels, and places increased demands on their abilities to adapt. 2. Nurses need to learn and routinely use coping measures to prevent exhaustion and burnout. 3. An in-house stress management program can help nurses learn to cope with constant exposure to work-related stressors, halt the cyclic process of stress, prevent burnout, and decrease turnover.

Verbal Workplace Violence and Burnout Among Italian Nurses: The Role of Self-Efficacy and Coping.

INTRODUCTION: Verbal workplace violence (WPV) is the most frequent form of aggression experienced by nurses and represents a significant psychosocial risk for professional well-being and workforce sustainability. Although individual resources such as self-efficacy and coping strategies may influence nurses' responses to verbal WPV, their role should be interpreted within the context of chronic occupational stress. OBJECTIVE: This study aimed to examine the prevalence and characteristics of verbal WPV among Italian nurses and to investigate its associations with burnout, psychological distress

Nurses' Engagement in Digital Health Clinical Trials Using Unobtrusive Monitoring Technologies: Constructivist Grounded Theory Study.

BACKGROUND: Unobtrusive digital monitoring technologies (UDMTs) enable continuous data collection beyond episodic clinical encounters and are increasingly incorporated into digital health clinical trials. However, their successful use depends on their integration into routine clinical practice. Poor integration can increase hidden nursing workload, disrupt workflows, compromise data quality, and limit the sustainability of digital trials. Although nurses play a central role in coordinating clinical, research, and technological activities, little is known about how they engage with UDMT-enabled

Smallpox nursing in Britain, Part II: Nursing care and nurse training.

Part I of this paper attempted to justify the need for this research for historical purposes, that is, to fill a gap in the history of nursing, and sought to raise awareness of possible bioterrorist activity with the smallpox virus. The disease process, now unfamiliar to most nurses, was briefly described, and reference was made to the change from a predominantly childhood to adult disease. The gradual removal of patients from home to hospital or other institutions was considered and the diverse nature of their attendants was discussed. Smallpox was then explained from two nursing perspectives

Snapshots of simulation: creative strategies used by Australian educators to enhance simulation learning experiences for nursing students.

Simulation in nursing is a flourishing area for nurse educators' practice. Defined as learning that amplifies, mimics or replaces real-life clinical situations, simulation aims to give students opportunity to reason through a clinical problem and make decisions, without the potential for harming actual patients. Educators in nursing are contributing to simulation learning in diverse and creative ways. Yet much of their craft is not being widely disseminated because educators are not always confident in publishing their work. This paper aims to stimulate creative development in simulation by pr

Cultural awareness of Inuit patients' experiences with emergency nursing care.

Around 1500 Inuit patients fly annually from Nunavik to hospital centres in Montreal. This is a tense experience for many Inuit, due to cultural differences, and task-driven nursing practices often inadequately meeting their holistic health beliefs. In this qualitative study, we explored the experiences of Inuit patients with emergency nursing (EN) in the McGill University Health Centre, to inform on the best holistic nursing practices to meet culturally specific needs. Data analysis from semi-structured interviews with four participants generated a single theme: "rationalizing the care". Whil

The changing profile of acute childhood illness: a need for the development of family nursing knowledge.

The profile of the acutely ill child and family has undergone dramatic changes in recent years. Advances in medical technology have substantially altered the life-death trajectory for ill children and their families; however, they have also left families to endure increasingly difficult situations with uncertain outcomes for prolonged periods of time. Nurses are interested in understanding how families manage in the face of serious illness, yet a review of the literature has revealed little progress in this area. While the importance of the family has been repeatedly documented, theoretical de

Effects of textual cue manipulation on student recall in an information mapped nutrition text.

Using the subject area of nutrition, this study examined the effects of different instructional features of an adjunctive text for nursing students who varied in reading level. Specifically, the study investigated the effects of both variations in instructional features of information-mapped text and the differences in student reading levels on immediate recall scores and work time spent on the modules. A sample of 65 nursing students was classified into high and low reading groups according to the Nelson-Denny Reading Test, then randomly assigned to one of the three treatment groups. Analysis

Investigation into the communication that takes place between nurses and patients during chemotherapy.

This study used the medium of videotaping to investigate the verbal and nonverbal communication that takes place between nurses and patients during chemotherapy administration. Eight chemotherapy sessions were video recorded and then analyzed for emerging themes. In addition, the videotapes were used in a reflective process with nurses. The findings showed that nurses were efficient in communicating about the physical and medical care of patients but were hesitant in exploring emotional issues. This study highlights the focus on physical symptoms and side effects by nurses in this setting. It

Prevalence of auditory hallucinations in nurses in mental health.

Seventy-nine nurses and student nurses working in the mental health field were asked to complete a questionnaire that asked about the prevalence of their experience of events that might be considered as examples of auditory hallucinations. Eighty-four per cent of the 55 nurses who returned the questionnaire described having experiences that might be described as auditory hallucinations. This level of prevalence is broadly consistent with other studies, and the difference between voices considered to indicate 'schizophrenia' and voices perceived as normal or unimportant is discussed. The releva

Nurses' knowledge, attitudes, and behaviors of inadvertent perioperative hypothermia prevention in China: a multicenter, cross-sectional study.

BACKGROUND: Inadvertent perioperative hypothermia (IPH) is a clinical phenomenon in which patient's core body temperature is below 36℃ due to non-medical purposes during the perioperative period. Children are more s usceptible to hypothermia due to their significantly higher surface area-to-body weight ratio compared to adults, the immaturity of their thermoregulatory centers, and the thinness of their subcutaneous fat insulation layer. Perioperative nursing is an essential component of the multiprofessional management of surgical patients. Since nurses are the primary caregivers and monitors

Bionursing: assessment of stress incontinence.

The fifth article in our series on bionursing uses a case study based on fact, with personal details altered to maintain confidentiality, to illustrate the importance of biological theories underpinning nursing care. The authors describe how perceptions of the ageing process can cloud nurses' judgement. They emphasise the need for staff to include physiological factors in their assessment of patients.

Peaceful Dying in the Intensive Care Unit: A Qualitative Exploration of Nursing Practices and Challenges.

BACKGROUND: In intensive care units, dying patients have complex care needs both physically and psychosocially. Ensuring a peaceful death requires not only technical skills but also a comprehensive nursing approach that includes empathy, ethical sensitivity and spiritual support. In the literature, it is seen that the concept of peaceful death is generally addressed in the context of palliative care, but the experiences of nurses working in intensive care units on this issue have been explored only in limited depth. AIM: The aim of this study is to examine in depth the nursing practices and e
