Glycogen storage disease (GSD) is a rare inborn error of metabolism with an incidence of 1/20,000-40,000 live births. Some of the presenting clinical features can mimic diseases commonly seen in the tropics and subtropics. The primary aim of this article is to examine the role of triad affiliation in mediating the relationship between child maltreatment (neglect, punishment, emotional abuse, and sexual abuse) and delinquency among active young gang members in Hong Kong. This study evaluated the effectiveness of Standing Strong Together (SST), a combined group based parent and child intervention for externalizing behavior in 9-16 year-old children with mild to borderline intellectual disabilities (MBID). A 10-year-old child with neurofibromatosis-1 was evaluated for progressive lumbar scoliosis, back pain, and foot numbness. Magnetic resonance imaging showed several lumbar intraspinal and extraspinal masses consistent with neurofibromas. For benign intrinsic tectal tumors causing triventricular obstructive hydrocephalus, cerebrospinal fluid diversion followed by neuroimaging is a widely accepted treatment plan. Ten independent variables were used to predict death before the first birthday for 4411 births that took place from 1878 to 1976 to 978 women of native ancestry on the island of St. Barthélemy. Information on vaccinations and vaccine-preventable infections collected in a prospective study of children born to human immunodeficiency virus (HIV)-infected mothers was analysed for reports of adverse reactions and to estimate the clinical efficacy of vaccines. No vaccinated, HIV-infected child developed measles (56 child-years' follow-up), mumps (33), rubella (33) or pertussis (239), and only one adverse reaction - to Bacillus Calmette-Guerin (BCG) - was reported. These findings provide limited evidence of the safety and efficacy of routine vaccination of HIV-infected children.

Forty-two children who sustained a serum bilirubin (SBR) level above 339 mumol/L as newborn infants were assessed at our Growth and Development Clinic to determine presence of sequelae. Only one child (2.3%) had mild sensorineural deafness and one child (2.3%) performed below age-matched standards on psychological testing. As the SBR level rose the psychological scores were lower. Pediatric asthma mortality is a perplexing and increasingly serious problem. Although many possible etiologic factors have been suggested, clear relationships are yet to be delineated. In addition to reviewing the literature, we studied the clinical and pathologic features of 14 local pediatric asthma deaths that occurred over a 7-year period.
