BACKGROUND: Pancreatic panniculitis is a rare cause of subcutaneous fat necrosis secondary to elevated serum levels of pancreatic enzymes. It is most often associated with pancreatic acinar cell carcinoma, but has also been seen in patients with pancreatitis.
CASE REPORT: We present a case of a 64 year old Caucasian man without symptoms of pancreatitis who presents with pancreatic panniculitis manifesting in multiple subcutaneous ulcerating nodules of the bilateral lower extremities, discovered to have a previously unreported etiology for this condition. He had no evidence of pancreatitis or …

Panniculitis is a rare cutaneous manifestation of dermatomyositis (DM). The appearance of panniculitis during treatment with methotrexate (MTX) is exceptional and has only been described in 3 cases. We report a case of a 50-year-old woman suffering from DM since 1997 who was treated with corticosteroids showing favorable clinical and biological evolution. When a relapse occurred 2 years later, she was treated with higher-dose of corticosteroids in combination with a 7,5 mg weekly dose of methotrexate. The evolution was rapidly favorable. Eighteen months later, the patient had multiple subcutan…

PURPOSE: The exact etiology of mesenteric panniculitis (MP) is still unknown and has been discussed in relation to different causes. The aim of this retrospective study was to evaluate a coherence between MP and malignancy.
MATERIALS AND METHODS: Retrospective analysis of consecutive CT abdomen examinations of 5595 patients in terms of MP over a period of 3 years was performed. To make the diagnosis of MP, three of five typical signs were obligatory: hyperdense mass lesion with intercalated nodules, a "fat-ring sign" or halo sign, a hyperdense pseudocapsule and displacement of bowel loops. Th…

RELEVANCE AND NOVEL INFORMATION: To our knowledge, only two cases of M thermoresistibile panniculitis have been reported in cats. In the only detailed report of feline M thermoresistibile panniculitis, treatment was not attempted. The second case only reported detection of M thermoresistibile by PCR without a clinical description of the case. In our …

A 41-year-old woman had two months of intermittent migratory swellings in the trunk, face, and limbs associated with erythema, pruritus, and pain. Laboratory analysis showed moderate eosinophilia. The triad of eosinophilia, migratory lesions (nodular panniculitis), and raw fish consumption was highly suggestive of cutaneous gnathostomiasis. She was successfully treated with albendazole (400 mg twice a day for 21 days) and showed complete and permanent resolution of the lesions.

Mesenteric panniculitis is a rare entity of benign features that affects the intestinal mesenteric fat tissue and can progress in different ways, from spontaneous resolution to fibrosis. The etiology is still uncertain, probably caused by trauma, infection or surgery. We report a case of a 64-year-old male patient who suddenly began with abdominal pain and leukocytosis. Diagnosis of mesenteric panniculitis was made by a CT scan and the patient evolved with spontaneous resolution within two months.

BACKGROUND: Panniculitis is a rare cutaneous manifestation of dermatomyositis (DM), typically presenting as tender, erythematous subcutaneous nodules. Complications, such as pain, calcinosis, and lipoatrophy, are associated with high morbidity. While it has been suggested that panniculitis in DM may correlate with a better prognosis, our understanding of its true significance, prognostic implications, and management is limited by the paucity of reported cases. We describe the first reported case to our knowledge of DM-associated panniculitis in the setting of ovarian adenocarcinoma as well as …

We describe a case of a 40-year-old woman who presented with ecchymoses of the right leg and who was found to have lobular panniculitis in biopsy due to Munchausen's Syndrome.

Mesenteric panniculitis is a benign disease characterized chronic nonspecific inflammation of the mesentery adipose tissue of the small intestine and colon. The specific etiology of the disease is unknown. The diagnosis is suggested by computed tomography (CT) and is usually confirmed by surgical biopsies. In recent years, abdominal CT is used as an effective method for diagnostic evaluation. We reported a case of the mesenteric panniculitis diagnosed with CT and operated for acute pancreatitis and cholecystitis five years ago.

Systemic sclerosis (SSc) is an autoimmune systemic disease characterized by small vessel involvement that leads to tissue ischemia and fibroblast stimulation resulting in accumulation of collagen (fibrosis) in the skin and internal organs. Lipomembranous panniculitis is a peculiar type of fat necrosis and has been reported with clinical conditions, commonly with peripheral vascular diseases. We describe a case of a 43-year-old woman with SSc manifestations, who presented with black scaly skin plaques, associated with thickening of the subcutaneous fat tissue, on the lateral surface of her thig…

BACKGROUND: Lipoatrophic panniculitis (LP) is a rare disease of childhood characterized by eruption of tender erythematous nodules and plaques followed by circumferential bands of lipoatrophy often seen on the arms and legs. This condition has also been known as lipophagic panniculitis of childhood, annular atrophy of the ankles, and partial lipodystrophy.
OBSERVATIONS: A previously healthy 8-year-old boy was evaluated for tender, raised plaques on the ankles, which progressed to circumferential atrophy of the distal lower extremities. Biopsy specimen analysis revealed a dense mixed infiltrat…
