Malignant melanotic nerve sheath tumor (MMNST) is a rare and aggressive peripheral nerve sheath tumor of Schwann cell origin that produces differentiated melanin and is clinically misdiagnosed as malignant melanoma. MMNST is most commonly observed in middle-aged adults and is often found in the midline of the spinal nerve or in the peripheral nerve area. It often manifests itself as a localized mass and/or nervous system involvement. To date, no standard guidelines are available for the treatment of MMNST. Herein, we reported a new case of MMNST that occurred in the parotid gland and reviewed

BACKGROUND: Canalicular adenoma is a rare, benign tumor of primarily salivary gland origin that presents mostly in the upper lip. However, there are only six reports in the English literature detailing canalicular adenoma of the parotid gland, none of which discuss discrepancy between preoperative cytology and surgical pathology. In this report, we present a rare case of parotid gland canalicular adenoma where preoperative ultrasound-guided fine-needle aspiration (USFNA) suggested malignancy. The patient was treated with deep lobe parotidectomy due to the FNA results and her multiple comorbidi

Multiple primary tumors of the parotid gland refer to the occurrence of 2 or more primary tumors in the ipsilateral or bilateral parotid gland metachronously or synchronously, which do not originate from postoperative recurrence or metastasis. Multiple primary tumors of the parotid gland, especially synchronous benign and malignant tumors, are extremely uncommon. A rare case of multiple Warthin tumors with epithelial-myoepithelial carcinoma of the ipsilateral parotid gland is reported as follows.

The objective of this review was to conduct a systematic review and meta-analysis to compare endoscopic with conventional parotid tumour excision. Online databases including MEDLINE, EMBASE, EMCare, CINAHL, the Cochrane Central Register of Controlled Trials (CENTRAL), the World Health Organization International Clinical Trials Registry (ICTRP), and the ISRCTN registry were all searched. All randomised controlled trials and observational studies comparing endoscopic with conventional parotid tumour excision were included. Five studies were identified and analysis was reported in forest plots wi

Parotid metastasis from carcinoma of the breast is very rare, only a few cases have been reported in the literature. We here report the case of a 43-year old patient treated for right breast cancer in whom left parotid metastasis (confirmed histologically) occurred two years after the end of the treatment.

In many regions of the world, the most common type of parotid malignancy is metastatic malignancy. Metastatic cutaneous squamous cell carcinoma and metastatic melanoma are the most common pathologies that metastasize to the parotid gland and cervical lymph nodes. Other more rare metastatic malignancies from cutaneous primary sites include Merkel cell carcinoma, pleomorphic sarcoma (previously called malignant fibrous histiocytoma) and metastatic basal cell carcinoma. Systemic metastases can also occur from tumors such as renal cell carcinoma. This review will focus on the management of the two

Secretory carcinoma is a rare, recently identified and recognized neoplasm in major salivary glands. Few cases have been described with only 16 pediatric cases in the literature. We present a case preoperatively identified as a benign parotid lesion whose management was delayed due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Post enucleation of the lesion, histology identified a secretory carcinoma. This led to further and more extensive surgery to ensure complete removal. Clinicians and histopathologists should be aware of secretory carcinoma in their differential, as a high index of suspicion is required to e

Myoepithelial carcinoma is an uncommon malignant salivary gland neoplasm with a predilection for parotid gland. However, its occurrence in minor salivary glands is considerably less with only 28 cases being reported in the literature. We report a case of myoepithelial carcinoma of palate in a 50-year-old woman. Computed tomography and magnetic resonance imaging revealed an extensive lesion in the palate. Microscopically, the tumor exhibited a wide spectrum of cytomorphologic features that overlap with other salivary gland tumors. Immunohistochemistry served as an adjunct in the diagnosis of th

Abstract Introduction: Cerebral metastases are the most common form of central nervous system (CNS) tumours in adults. However, malignant neoplasm may also involve structures external to the brain, such as tissue surrounding the base of the skull, and then metastasize to the brain either by direct invasion or by spreading by the cranial nerves. CASE1: A 74 year-old man, with a past history of chronic kidney disease due to renal artery thrombosis and hypertension, was admitted in the emergency room (ER) complaining of persisting pain in the superior half of the right hemiface and frontal region

PURPOSE: Warthin tumor (WT) is the second most common benign parotid neoplasm, and its reported incidence has risen over recent decades, with a narrowing male predominance that parallels tobacco exposure trends. Whether WT is a true clonal neoplasm or a metaplastic process remains contested. We synthesize contemporary evidence on WT pathogenesis into a unified framework and articulate its diagnostic implications.
METHODS: Critical narrative synthesis. We searched PubMed/MEDLINE, Embase, and Web of Science from inception through May 16, 2026 for "Warthin tumor" and its synonyms combined with s

This article discusses the embryology and surgical treatment of diseases of the salivary glands, which require precise knowledge of anatomy. Knowledge of the course of the facial nerve enables safe removal of parotid tumors. The submandibular gland is associated intimately with the lingual and hypoglossal nerves.

Salivary gland tumors are a rare and heterogeneous group of neoplasms of the head and neck region. The mixed category of these tumors include the following entities: pleomorphic adenoma (PA), carcinoma ex pleomorphic adenoma (CEPA), salivary carcinosarcoma (CS), and metastasizing PA (MPA). The most common benign tumor of the salivary glands is PA. Metastasis and malignant degeneration have been reported in cases of PA of a salivary gland origin. Judging by their behavior, MPA, CEPA, and CS can be considered aggressive tumors. Invasive CEPA has been identified in the parotid gland more frequent

INTRODUCTION: Atypical pleomorphic adenoma (PA) is an uncommon tumor, more frequent in submandibular and parotid glands. PA is classified as atypical when it presents hypercellularity, necrosis or hyalinization, dysplasia, capsular violation or distant metastases.
CASE REPORT: We described a case of a 39-year-old female presented with a slowly growing mass involving the soft palate. A life-threatening bleeding from PA with hemorrhagic shock occurred and required ligation of the external carotid artery with tracheotomy. A transoral en-bloc excision of the mass (70 x 50 x 40 mm) was performed.

Oncocytes are epithelial cells with abundant, granular, eosinophilic cytoplasm due to presence of numerous large mitochondria of varied sizes. The presence of oncocytes in salivary glands can occur in a variety of conditions. Here, we present a rare case of a 68 year old male patient who presented with a 6 cm diameter swelling in the right parotid region. A fine needle aspiration cytology done from the lesion showed a cellular oncocytic lesion. A possibility of oncocytoma was entertained. Histopathology of the mass showed a rare entity called diffuse hyperplastic oncocytosis. Originally believ
