Myelopathy from cervical spondylosis is often accompanied by hyperreflexia of the upper-extremity deep tendon reflexes (DTRs). Reflexes such as the pectoralis jerk and the deltoid jerk may only be apparent in the context of hyperreflexia. Although the nerve roots involved in the reflex arcs are well described, levels of cervical spinal cord compression that lead to the hyperreflexia are not as clear. This is of particular significance for patients with multilevel cervical spondylosis in determining the levels responsible for their symptoms. The authors examined 15 consecutive patients who pres

A prospective study of 1843 patients was performed to identify the frequency of imaging the medial portion of the greater pectoral muscle on the craniocaudal projection during routine mammography. This artifact was seen in 14 patients. None of these patients had a palpable abnormality; additional craniocaudal views revealed continuity of the density with the pectoral muscle. Four patients were reexamined in 6 months; no change was seen in the size of the density. The density is thought to represent the medial portion of the pectoral muscle, which is included because of vigorous retraction of t

PURPOSE: To provide a quantitative and qualitative anatomic analysis of the pectoralis major, teres major, and latissimus dorsi on the humerus, as well as the deltoid tendinous attachments on the proximal humerus and acromion, and to quantitatively characterize the humeral course of the axillary nerve.
METHODS: Ten nonpaired, fresh-frozen human cadaveric shoulders were analyzed. A portable coordinate-measuring device quantified the location of bony landmarks and tendon attachment areas. The tendon footprints were recorded by tracing their outlines and center points. The footprint areas of the

In Japan, the approved maximum dosage of Onabotulinum Toxin A (BoNT-A) (BOTOX, Allergan plc, Irvine, CA, USA) for upper and lower limb spasticity was increased to 600 units in November 2022. As reports on this high dosage are rare internationally, this study aimed to confirm its safety and evaluate the muscles administered. The study included 24 stroke patients (18 men, six women) treated with 600 units of BoNT-A between December 2024 and January 2025. Medical records were reviewed for treatment history, including the number of injection cycles and target muscles. On the final injection day, p

This report presents a severe case of Poland-Möbius syndrome with central apnea at birth, ventilator-dependent, and with brainstem calcifications. The newborn had unilateral defect of the right pectoralis muscle, breast, and limb. He manifested bilateral paralysis of the cranial nerves resulting in shallow respiration, apnea, and dysphagia. He finally required tracheostomy and gastrostomy. Maternal history revealed multiple uses of cocaine during the first 3 months of pregnancy. The patient supports the Poland-Möbius combination and the possibility of vascular disruption sequence.

OBJECTIVE: To develop an explainable hybrid deep learning features framework using low-dose chest CT (LDCT)-derived pectoralis features for opportunistic type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) opportunistic screening, evaluating its incremental value over conventional biomarkers.
METHODS: This multi-center study analyzed LDCT images from 1,209 individuals. Following automated MedSAM segmentation, conventional metrics (e.g., Mean_HU, SMI) and deep learning (DL) features (ResNet152) were extracted. To prevent data leakage, PCA, LASSO selection, and ExtraTrees model optimization were strictly confined

BACKGROUND: Poland syndrome is an occasional congenital malformation characterized by unilateral chest wall dysplasia and ipsilateral upper limb abnormalities. An association between Poland syndrome and breast cancer has been reported, but no clear etiological link between Poland syndrome and breast tumors has been established. We report a case of Poland syndrome combined with breast cancer and analyzed the clinical features of breast cancer in this case and its influence on the choice of treatment for breast cancer.
CASE DESCRIPTION: In February 2022, we admitted a 47-year-old woman with Pol

The axillary lymph center drains a large area; however, axillary lymphadenectomy is rarely reported in series detailing lymph node extirpation in dogs. No surgical technique has yet been described for axillary and superficial axillary lymphadenectomy. This study describes a technique for excision of nodes in the axillary lymph center of the dog. Two male neutered and two male intact cadavers weighing between 6.3 and 36.1 kg were used. With cadavers in dorsal recumbency and the shoulder extended, an incision was made in the caudal axillary region. Blunt dissection was used to separate the pecto

BACKGROUND/PURPOSE: Poland syndrome (PS) is a congenital anomaly of the thoracic wall characterised by a variable degree of unilateral agenesis of pectoralis major and minor muscles associated with ipsilateral breast, rib and upper-arm anomalies. In female patients, breast reconstruction is particularly challenging because of cranial pectoralis muscle defects and partial or complete breast agenesis. Different techniques have been used to treat the thoracic anomaly, including the positioning of an implant, fat transfer or latissimus dorsi transposition, but in some cases these techniques are no

BACKGROUND: Although sternal wound infections and nonunions affect only a small percentage of patients undergoing median sternotomy, the morbidity, mortality, and expenses associated with them continue to make their treatment of great importance.
METHODS: The authors present a retrospective study of their experience using titanium plates for repair of 50 complicated sternal wounds. The cases reviewed include all cases performed by the primary and secondary authors between the years of 1998 and 2002. Synthes 2.4-mm locking reconstruction plates were used in transverse fixation across the stern

Forty-eight patients who suffered sternal wound infections following coronary artery bypass grafting were retrospectively reviewed over a 5-year period. All patients in this study had clinical signs of major infection including redness, pain, and purulence at the time of mediastinal drainage and debridement. One patient died 11 days postoperatively because of heart failure, leaving 47 patients available for long-term follow-up. All muscle flaps (pectoralis and rectus abdominis) survived completely. All wound complications were related to chest wall skin flap dehiscence or continued infection.
