Personalized health risk assessment based on single-cell RNA sequencing analysis of a male with 45, X/48, XYYY karyotype.

Numeric sex chromosome abnormalities are commonly associated with an increased cancer risk. Here, we report a 14-year-old boy with a rare mosaic 45, X/48, XYYY karyotype presenting with subtle dysmorphic features and relative height deficiency, requiring growth hormone therapy. As only 12 postnatal cases have been described so far with very limited follow-up data, to assess the proband's long-term prognosis, including cancer risk, we performed high-throughput single-cell RNA sequencing (scRNA-seq) analysis. Although comprehensive cytogenetic analysis showed seemingly near perfect balance betwe

Exercise Self-Efficacy and patient global assessment were associated with 6-min walk test distance in persons with rheumatoid arthritis.

INTRODUCTION: Low functional capacity is related to future loss of daily function and cardiovascular events. The present study explored the associations of patient-reported outcome measures (PROMs) and disease-specific measures with functional capacity as measured by the 6-min walk test (6MWT) in persons with rheumatoid arthritis (RA). METHODS: Seventy-nine participants from rheumatology outpatient clinics were included. The distance walked during the 6MWT (6MWD) was the dependent variable in multivariable regression analyses. Model 1 included the independent variables sex, age (in tertiles t

Reliability and validity of an adapted hip abductor strength measure as a potential new fall risk assessment for older persons: a study protocol.

BACKGROUND: Persons aged ≥ 65 years are currently the world's fastest growing age group. An important complication of age is the increasing risk of falls. Falls have multifactorial etiology and modifiable risk factors open for interventions in prevention and rehabilitation, are of high interest. In this context, strong hip abductors seem to be important to prevent falls. A newly adapted measurement device to measure hip abductor strength (HAS) in a closed chain position was developed. We aim to assess feasibility, intra- and inter-tester reliability and construct and criterion validity of the

Towards a comprehensive, person-centred assessment of health literacy: translation, cultural adaptation and psychometric test of the Dutch Health Literacy Questionnaire.

BACKGROUND: Many health literacy instruments focus on reading skills, numeracy and/or information processing aspects only. In the Netherlands, as in other countries, the need for a comprehensive, person-centred measure of health literacy was observed and consequently the decision was made to translate the Health Literacy Questionnaire (HLQ) into Dutch. The HLQ has nine health literacy domains covering people's experiences and skills. This research sought to translate, culturally adapt and psychometrically test the HLQ. METHODS: The translation and adaptation was done using a systematic approa

Needs Assessment for Turkish Family Caregivers of Older Persons with Cancer: First-Phase Results of Adapting an Early Palliative Care Model.

Background: Although palliative care is expanding globally for patients with serious illness, Turkey has not had widespread integration of early concurrent oncology palliative care. Hence, adapting and testing models of concurrent oncology palliative care for Turkish patients is imperative. Furthermore, it is critical that these care models also address the needs of family caregivers. Objective: To assess needs and elicit suggestions that would inform the adaptation of the ENABLE (Educate, Nurture, Advise, Before Life Ends) evidence-based early palliative care model for Turkish family caregive

Skin sensitisation quantitative risk assessment (QRA) based on aggregate dermal exposure to methylisothiazolinone in personal care and household cleaning products.

Contact allergy to preservatives is an important public health problem. Ideally, new substances should be evaluated for the risk on skin sensitisation before market entry, for example by using a quantitative risk assessment (QRA) as developed for fragrances. As a proof-of-concept, this QRA was applied to the preservative methylisothiazolinone (MI), a common cause of contact allergy. MI is used in different consumer products, including personal care products (PCPs) and household cleaning products (HCPs). Aggregate exposure to MI in PCPs and HCPs was therefore assessed with the Probabilistic Agg

Assessing the contribution of borderline personality disorder and features to suicide risk in psychiatric inpatients with bipolar disorder, major depression and schizoaffective disorder.

Suicidal behavior often accompanies both borderline personality disorder (BPD) and severe mood disorders, and comorbidity between the two appears to further increase suicide risk. The current study aims to quantify the risk of suicidality conferred by comorbid BPD diagnosis or features in three affective disorders: major depressive disorder (MDD), bipolar disorder (BP) and schizoaffective disorder. One hundred forty-nine (149) psychiatric inpatients were assessed by SCID I and II, and the Columbia Suicide Severity Rating Scale. Logistic regression analyses investigated the associations between

Applying the DSM-5 Alternative Model of Personality Disorders and the Shedler-Westen Assessment Procedure to the Classic Case of "Madeline G.": Novice and Expert Rater Convergences and Divergence.

Prior research supports the learnability of the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders, 5th Edition Alternative Model of Personality Disorders (AMPD). However, researchers have yet to compare novice ratings on the AMPD's Level of Personality Functioning Scale and the 25 pathological personality traits with expert ratings. Furthermore, the AMPD has yet to be examined with the idiographic Shedler-Westen Assessment Procedure (SWAP). We compared the aggregated AMPD clinical profile of a group of psychology doctoral students who learned the AMPD to high levels of reliability to that

From Assessment to Intervention: Leveraging Ecological Momentary Assessment (EMA) to Develop a Personalized mobile-health (mHealth) Ecological Momentary Intervention (EMI) for Young Adults With ADHD and High-Risk Alcohol Use.

Ecological momentary assessment (EMA) can be a powerful and flexible tool for collecting data on alcohol use, particularly to understand proximal precursors and consequences. EMA can also be leveraged to inform the development of and deploy mobile-health (mHealth) interventions. This article describes the development of an mHealth ecological momentary intervention (EMI) for young adults with high-risk alcohol use and attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD). This novel intervention uses EMA as an intervention component to increase self-awareness via symptom monitoring. It also incorpora

Criterion Validity and Inter-Method Reliability of a Smartphone Sensor-Based Application for Lower-Limb Range of Motion: In-Person vs. Tele-Assessment.

The increasing use of telerehabilitation has intensified the need for validated smartphone sensor-based tools capable of accurately capturing joint range of motion (ROM). This study examined the criterion validity of the PhysioMaster application compared with a universal goniometer during in-person assessments and evaluated the inter-method reliability between in-person and online PhysioMaster measurements. Thirty healthy young adults underwent standardized hip, knee, and ankle ROM testing using both approaches. The criterion validity was limited for most joints, with only ankle plantarflexion

Assessing key mental health-related lifestyle behaviours and experiences in a single scale: a validation of the Personal Experiences in Everyday Life (PEEL) questionnaire.

BACKGROUND: Adolescence is a period of heightened vulnerability to mental health problems, with lifestyle habits and negative social experiences representing both risk and resilience factors. Existing tools typically assess a limited range of such habits and experiences. The Personal Experiences in Everyday Life (PEEL) questionnaire is a brief measure of key modifiable lifestyle behaviours and negative social experiences. We examined its psychometric properties and associations with symptoms of depression, anxiety, and psychological wellbeing. METHODS: Two community samples, a mid-adolescent (

Development of an MSPE-UHPLC-MS/MS method for bisphenols and alkylphenols in personal care products: a pilot study and preliminary safety assessment in China.

As daily essentials for skin protection and cosmetic enhancement, personal care products (PCPs) are used extensively worldwide. Due to their direct and prolonged contact with the skin, any hazardous ingredients they contain warrant serious attention. Although bisphenols (BPs) and alkylphenols (APs) are of growing concern for their known or potential endocrine-disrupting effects, most research has targeted food, water, and environmental samples, with comparatively few methods available for their analysis in PCPs. To assess the occurrence and potential risks of such substances in PCPs, this stud

What shapes the quality of life among older persons living with HIV? A multidimensional assessment from The Aids Support Organisation clinics in Uganda.

INTRODUCTION: The Quality of Life (QoL) Composite Index provides a multidimensional, person-centred measure integrating functioning, symptom burden, general health perception, psychological, social, and living environmental, offering a critical metric for assessing successful ageing with HIV. However, evidence on the determinants of this composite measure among older persons living with HIV (OPLHIV) in Uganda remains limited. OBJECTIVE: To estimate the Quality-of-Life Composite Index and identify its key determinants among OPLHIV receiving care from The AIDS Support Organisation (TASO) in Uga

Comprehensive screening and occurrence-removal assessment of pharmaceuticals and personal care products in wastewater treatment plants using high-resolution mass spectrometry.

The extensive use of pharmaceuticals and personal care products (PPCPs) has led to their increasing presence in urban wastewater. The discharge of these contaminants into natural water bodies poses a threat to human health and the ecological environment. This study developed an integrated target, suspect, and functional group-dependent screening method for PPCPs via UHPLC-Q-Orbitrap HRMS, and this method was applied for investigation of occurrence of known and unknown PPCPs in 90 water samples from 18 wastewater treatment plants (WWTPs) located along the Yangtze River. The results demonstrated
