Stelazine-induced pigmentation.

A case of a West Indian patient is reported who developed abnormal blue-grey pigmentation on exposed areas of skin following treatment with low dose stelazine. Oculocutaneous melanosis is a well-recognized side-effect of prolonged phenothiazine treatment. In this condition the areas of skin exposed to sunlight develop a violaceous, blue-grey or slate-grey colour in more severe cases. These characteristic changes are rarely seen now. We describe the case of a patient who developed pigmentation while taking a low dose of stelazine for 5 years.

Peritoneal melanosis: case report and literature review.

Peritoneal melanosis is a rare benign pigmentation disorder of the peritoneum, often discovered incidentally during surgery, alarmingly mimicking metastatic melanoma. We present the case of a 35-year-old female, who underwent emergency repair for a strangulated umbilical hernia. Intraoperatively, a 0.5 cm pigmented nodule was incidentally found on the pelvic peritoneum, alongside a similar ovarian lesion. An excisional biopsy was performed to rule out malignancy. Histopathological examination revealed fibro-adipose tissue with a dense inflammatory infiltrate and pigment-laden macrophages, conf

Deafness associated with pigmentation phenotypes in North American yaks (Bos grunniens).

OBJECTIVE: To assess the presence of suspected pigment-associated deafness in North American yaks (Bos grunniens). ANIMALS: 12 North American yaks, including 11 with the homozygous piebald Royal pigmentation phenotype and 1 with the heterozygous piebald Trim phenotype. PROCEDURES: Hearing was assessed using the brainstem auditory evoked response (BAER) on yaks restrained in the head gate of a grooming chute. RESULTS: Five of the Royal yaks and the Trim yak had hearing in both ears. Six Royal yaks were affected; 3 were deaf in 1 ear and 3 were deaf in both ears. CLINICAL RELEVANCE: For the

Multifocal oral melanoacanthoma associated with Addison's disease and hyperthyroidism: a case report.

Oral melanoacanthoma is a mucocutaneous, pigmented, rare, benign, and probably reactive lesion. This paper reports for the first time in the literature a case of multifocal oral melanoacanthoma in a patient diagnosed with Addison's disease and concomitant Graves' disease with hyperthyroidism. The patient presented with oral pigmented lesions, which were hypothesized to be mucosal pigmentation associated with Addison's disease. Due to their unusual clinical pattern, these oral lesions were biopsied and diagnosed as oral melanoacanthoma on histopathology and immunohistochemistry for HMB-45. At t

Depigmentation Outcomes in Pigmented Oral Lichen Planus Managed With Mycophenolate Mofetil.

Pigmented oral lichen planus (OLP) is a chronic, immune-mediated mucosal disorder associated with dark black or brown discoloration secondary to the excess melanin deposition. This medical condition is often accompanied by the typical white (reticular) or red (erosive) OLP features and is refractory to conventional therapy. We report a case of OLP which was successfully managed with oral mycophenolate mofetil (MMF), resulting in significant symptomatic relief and reduction of hyperpigmentation. MMF offers a safe and effective systemic option for persistent pigmented OLP.
