A specific beta(2)-adrenoceptor-mediated effect, hypokalaemia, was studied in healthy volunteers after single as well as multiple dosages of the long-acting agonist formoterol and the short-acting agent salbutamol. The recent use of urea as a treatment for the crisis phase of sickle-cell anemia has prompted us to investigate the possibility that cyanate, which is in equilibrium with urea in solution, might itself prevent the sickling of erythrocytes. Hydrothermal liquefaction of corn, soybean, rice and wheat straws with K3PO4, Fe and Fe + K3PO4 at 320 °C for 30 min was examined. The addition of K3PO4 led to the highest biocrude yields from hydrothermal liquefaction of rice straws (39.20 wt%). The purpose of this study was to find the most cadmium (Cd2+) tolerant and remediated bacteria isolate from KNO3 processing unit contaminated soil. One isolate out of 19 isolates possessed excellent Cd2+ tolerance than others, which was recognized as Enterobacter hormaechei SFC3 through molecular characterization (16S rRNA sequencing). Total syntheses of anti-fungal cyclopentenones (-)-hygrophorone A12, 4-O-acetyl-hygrophorone A12 and (+)-hygrophorone B12 were achieved in high overall yields from d-(-)-tartaric acid. The key feature of these syntheses is the aqueous KOH-mediated diastereoselective intramolecular aldol reaction to form β-hydroxy ketone with three contiguous chiral centres, which was further elaborated to (-)-hygrophorone A12 and (+)-hygrophorone B12. The synthetic route reported here is operationally simple and highly diastereoselective and is amenable for the synthesis of several analogues of hygrophorones.

The paper presents the data of many years' studies of the effect of different soil radiation pollution levels on the plant accumulation of different types of 137Cs and potassium and phosphorus salts. With increased soil radiation levels, not only the plant content of 137Cs becomes higher, but that of potassium and phosphoric acid also changes. The amount of potassium is decreased in the topinambour and increased in the lentils, but only in its seeds; that of potassium and phosphoric acid is increased in all parts of rape.
