The total capacity, middle capacity, and residual air have been determined in twenty adult women suffering from pulmonary tuberculosis. The chest volumes have been determined in each case and the normal lung volumes calculated by means of the ratios worked out in Paper I and applied to thirty-one men in Paper II. Ultrasound is an established method of assessing bladder and residual urine volumes. The aim of this study was to improve the accuracy of ultrasound in measuring changes in bladder volume and to avoid bladder catheterisation. Radionuclide uroflowmetry was performed in 23 patients with bladder outlet obstruction and 29 controls.
