Immunity assays on sheep sera using passive mouse protection tests showed that vaccines containing more than 4 strains of Pasteurella multocida did not give a good immunity. The immune response was not enhanced by the use of an oil adjuvant, and high concentrations of bacteria had only a partial positive effect. A study of 13-18 days old sheep conceptuses has consistently demonstrated the presence of multicellular protrusions (papillae) from the trophectoderm surface. These papillae were shown to be restricted to the embryonic region of conceptuses flushed out of the uterus. After perfusion fixation of the uterus on day 16 of pregnancy, the papillae can be observed penetrating well down into the lumina of the uterine glands. Serological survey with an IFA-test showed that 58% (73/125) of the lambs and 88% (46/52) of the ewes on the island of Gotland (Sweden) has antibodies against Babesia motasi. It is likely that such a high incidence of the blood protozoan organisms plays an important part in causing the often observed anaemia in sheep on that island.

In a sheep which was euthanased because of severe emaciation and weakness, slight thickening of the ileum was seen grossly. Microscopically there was a granulomatous ileitis with obliterative lymphangitis and lymphangiectasis. Granulomatous lesions were also present in the liver and some mesenteric lymph nodes. Hypomagnesaemia was induced in adult sheep by changing their diet from chaff given orally to a milk diet, low in Mg, infused via the abomasum. All sheep given the milk diet developed hypomagnesaemia and four out of 19 developed nervous convulsions similar to the natural disease grass tetany. Comparative experiments were carried out on the effectiveness of some antiparasitic agents for the treatment and prophylaxis of estrosis in sheep. An evaluation is made of all methods applied in the modern technologies of sheep raising. It was found that the method of fumigation of airtight premises using negouvon at the rate of 0.6 g/m3 and a 60-min exposure was adequate and effective for group treatment.
