A Network Analysis of the PART-O at 1 and 2 Years After TBI: A Veterans Affairs Model Systems Study.

OBJECTIVE: The construct of participation after traumatic brain injury (TBI) can be difficult to operationalize. Psychometric network analysis offers an empirical approach to visualizing and quantifying the associations between activities that comprise participation, elucidating the relations among the construct's components without assuming the presence of a latent common cause and generating a model to inform future measurement methods. The current research applied psychometric network analysis to the Participation Assessment with Recombined Tools-Objective (PART-O) within a sample of servic

A Novel Social Network Approach to Measure Intersectional Stigma Among Latino Men Who Have Sex With Men in San Diego, California (NEXUS): Protocol for a Longitudinal Cohort Study.

BACKGROUND: Latino men who have sex with men (LMSM) account for a disproportionate and growing number of HIV diagnoses in the United States. Intersectional stigma remains a key driver of HIV inequities; however, most quantitative intersectional stigma measures are limited and do not consider the larger social context. OBJECTIVE: NEXUS is a longitudinal cohort study that will use social network methods and theory to rigorously measure intersectional stigma among LMSM and quantify the longitudinal association between intersectional stigma and HIV prevention outcomes. METHODS: We will prospecti

Large-Scale Cerebellar-Cerebral Network Alterations Underlying Impaired Social Predictive Processing in Cerebellar Neurodegeneration.

The cerebellum is a key node for detecting and adjusting social-prediction internal models. Yet social prediction has been scantly investigated in neurodegenerative cerebellar patients (CB). Thus, we examined CB social-prediction abilities and related cerebellar-cerebral networks, using tailored tasks and resting-state fMRI. Thirteen adult CB and twenty-six matched controls completed three computerized prediction tasks, where contextual priors activate specific internal models setting expectations which may influence recognition of ambiguous targets (emotion expressions, personality-traits, no

AI framework for DRIVE model based mental health detection in text: a case study on how coping strategies are expressed during COVID-19.

BACKGROUND: This article defines an artificial intelligence framework to detect individual's mental health (MH) status on social networks. The proposed framework, which consists of four main modules, aims to analyze the emotions that are expressed by social network users in their text posts and identify their mental coping strategies, resources, and demands based on The Demands-Resources-Individual Effects (DRIVE) model. Although sentiment analysis (SA) is effective in analyzing the polarity of the text, it is limited in detecting the mental health status in terms of the coping strategies, ava

Mapping the network structure of dementia and its associated factors among older adults in Singapore: evidence from two national cross-sectional studies.

BACKGROUND: Dementia arises from the interplay of multiple sociodemographic, behavioural, physical, and psychosocial factors that often coexist and interact in later life. Traditional epidemiological studies have typically examined these factors in isolation, overlooking their complex interrelations. Network analysis provides an integrative framework to visualise and quantify these interconnections, offering insights into how dementia and its associated factors coexist within a broader system. METHODS: Data were drawn from two nationally representative cross-sectional surveys of older adults

Views on the use of the term 'elder orphans': A qualitative study.

Older adults living alone in the community with no immediate family network or support are referred in the literature as 'elder orphans'. The grey literature has a growing emphasis on the importance of supporting this vulnerable group, particularly with health and social care. However, there is a dearth of empirical research on 'elder orphans', and definitions remained semantically complicated and unknown to the public, healthcare professionals and those being referred as elder orphans. This research explored the views of older adults on the use of the terminology 'elder orphans', and the impl

Dynamic interactions among badgers: implications for sociality and disease transmission.

1. Direct interactions between individuals play an important part in the sociality of group-living animals, their mating system and disease transmission. Here, we devise a methodology to quantify relative rates of proximity interaction from radio-tracking data and highlight potential asymmetries within the contact network of a moderate-density badger population in the north-east of England. 2. We analysed radio-tracking data from four contiguous social groups, collected over a 3-year period. Dynamic interaction analysis of badger dyads was used to assess the movement of individuals in relation

Using a mixed opinion dynamics and innovation diffusion model to explore the 'best game no one played' phenomenon.

Innovative products that receive favorable reviews but never catch on with consumers belong to a category known as the "best game no one played." We combined an adoption threshold model with an opinion dynamics model to examine reasons why certain high-quality products and ideas never achieve expected levels of commercial success. Computational social scientists use opinion dynamics models to analyze consensus formation, and adoption threshold models to study acceptance scenarios. However, most studies based on the first type focus on opinion exchanges without discussing follow-up actions, and

Sex Behaviors as Social Cues Motivating Social Venue Patronage Among Young Black Men Who Have Sex with Men.

HIV prevention programs often focus on the physical social venues where men who have sex with men (MSM) frequent as sites where sex behaviors are assumed to be practiced and risk is conferred. But, how exactly these behaviors influence venue patronage is not well understood. In this study, we present a two-mode network analysis that determines the extent that three types of sex behaviors-condomless sex, sex-drug use, and group sex-influence the patronage of different types of social venues among a population sample of young Black MSM (YBMSM) (N = 623). A network analytic technique called expon

Morphometric dissimilarity in association cortices linked to autism subtype with more severe symptoms.

Autism spectrum disorder (ASD) is a prevalent and heterogeneous neurodevelopmental condition marked by atypical brain connectivity. Understanding ASD neural subtypes at the network level is critical for clarifying its neuroanatomical heterogeneity. Morphometric similarity networks (MSNs), derived from region-to-region similarity across multiple anatomical features, offer a powerful approach for capturing individual-level neural architecture. In this study, MSNs were estimated from seven anatomical features in 348 individuals with ASD and 452 typically developing (TD) controls. Across all ASD p
