INTRODUCTION: Concomitant patellar tendon (PT) tear with cruciate or multi-ligament knee injuries (MLKI) following high-velocity injury requires a systematic approach.
METHODS: The study is a retrospective case series of patients (2008-2019) with concomitant PT ligament injury with cruciate or collateral ligament injury (MLKI), including bony avulsion injuries. Isolated cruciate and MLKI without patellar tendon tears are excluded. N = 32 patients (1 female and 31 male) are divided into two groups, Group 1 (11 patients) with PT tear and ACL tear and group 2 (21 patients) with PT tear and MLKIs

CONTEXT: It is estimated that only 50% of athletes who sustain pectoralis major tendon injuries return to sport (RTS) despite successful treatment. This limited RTS rate may be due to absence of standardized RTS criteria for such patients. Evidence suggests a significant heterogeneity in RTS guidance across various studies, leading to inconsistency in clinical advice.
OBJECTIVE: To examine the existing RTS criteria used in pectoralis major tendon injury in different sporting populations.
DATA SOURCES: A comprehensive literature search with defined keywords was conducted in electronic databas…

Advanced intraoperative anesthesia techniques have improved patient cooperation, stabilized hemodynamic status, and reduced postoperative pain and disability, especially in reconstructive limb surgeries. The Wide-Awake Local Anesthetic No Tourniquet (WALANT) technique has recently been adopted due to its peculiar advantages, but comparative studies of its benefits and limitations against general anesthesia are not well explored in FCR tendon transfer surgery. This study investigates outcomes of Flexor Carpi Radialis (FCR) tendon transfer surgery in patients with radial nerve injuries using eit

BACKGROUND: Isolated triceps tendon injuries are infrequent, and their combination with a medial ligament avulsion is even rarer. Eccentric force on the triceps tendon following a fall on the outstretched hand, combined with a valgus torque at the elbow joint, exposes the medial side to stretching forces, potentially disrupting the ulnar collateral ligament (UCL). Furthermore, compressive forces on the lateral side could result in injury to the radial head. Currently, there is no standardized surgical approach for managing such combined injuries.
INDICATIONS: The complex triad injury presente…

Gustilo type IIIB open forearm fractures associated with avulsion injuries of multiple extensor tendons are difficult to reconstruct. Not only are bones, nerves, blood vessels, and soft tissues injured, but also tendons directly related to hand function. A 74-year-old man sustained an injury to his dominant right hand after being hit by a heavy pulley. The patient was diagnosed with a Gustilo type IIIB open forearm fracture, and multiple extensor tendons were avulsed from the musculotendinous junction. On the day of injury, the radius was fixed using a volar locking plate, and the ulnar head w

BACKGROUND: Disruption of the anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) is associated with significant biomechanical and neuromuscular changes including deficits in joint proprioception. While previous studies have assessed joint position sense (JPS) in ACL deficient knees, methods have varied and few have done so with prospective study designs. The specific aim of this investigation was to determine the effect(s) of ACL reconstruction and recovery time may have on JPS.
METHODS: In this prospective study, we assess the effects of ACL reconstruction and rehabilitation on joint position sense in a tempo

OBJECTIVE: Percutaneous suture is a classic technique used in Achilles tendon repair. However, the complication rates surrounding the sural nerve remain relatively high. Modified percutaneous repair technology can effectively avoid these complications; however, the surgical procedure is complicated. Hence, the present study was conducted to describe a redesigned repair technique for the Achilles tendon able to avoid sural nerve injury and reduce the complexity of the procedure.
METHODS: Data of patients with acute primary Achilles tendon rupture at our hospital from January 2019 to May 2020 w

Ulnar-sided wrist pain is common among athletes who subject their wrists to forceful rotational movements. Injury to the numerous complex structures in the ulnar wrist, including the extensor carpi ulnaris (ECU) tendon and triangular fibrocartilage complex (TFCC), can result in ulnar-sided wrist pain. Although differentiating between ECU tendinitis and TFCC injury is necessary, ECU tendon disorders and TFCC injury occasionally occur concurrently. Subluxation or dislocation of the ECU tendon is rare but may cause symptoms in athletes subjecting their wrists to forceful rotational movements. We

A 46-year-old woman sustained a rupture of the extensor pollicis longus tendon more than 30 years after wrist injury. She was successfully treated with palmaris longus tendon graft and excision of the osseous spur. Attrition of the extensor pollicis longus tendon by a newly formed osseous spur was the major mechanism.

INTRODUCTION: The Thoracolumbar Injury Classification and Severity (TLICS) scale has been considered one of the best available grading systems for evaluating thoracolumbar fractures, especially due to the fact that, differently from previous classifications, it can be used as a practical algorithm to orient the clinical decision-making between conservative and surgical management.
CASE REPORT: The authors describe a case of a 54-year-old patient presenting with low-back pain after having struck her back on the handrail. The neurological exam was unremarkable. The CT-scan of the lumbar spine d

The ulnar tunnel syndrome occurs usually from ganglions, lipoma, cysts, chronic repetitive trauma, bicycling, and the activities that require either prolonged wrist hyper extension or continued pressure on the hypothenar eminence. The ulnar tunnel syndrome after flexor tendon repair is a rare complication. We report on a 24-year-old man with ulnar tunnel syndrome after a flexor tendon repair secondary to girder cut injury. The patient was managed conservatively for his hypertrophic scar for 9 weeks. After 9 weeks, the patient presented with no clawing and complete closure of the hand.

Upper extremity tendinopathies are associated with performance of forceful repetitive tasks. We used our rat model of repetitive strain injury to study changes induced in forelimb flexor digitorum tendons. Rats were trained to perform a high repetition high force (HRHF) handle-pulling task (12 reaches/min at 60 +/- 5% maximum pulling force [MPF]), or a low repetition negligible force (LRNF) reaching and food retrieval task (three reaches/min at 5 +/- 5% MPF), for 2 h/day in 30 min sessions, 3 days/week for 3-12 weeks. Forelimb grip strength was tested. Flexor digitorum tendons were examined at

OBJECT: Neurogenic bladder dysfunction following spinal cord injury (SCI) is a major medical and social problem for which there is no ideal treatment strategy. In the present study, the authors analyze the effectiveness of neurogenic bladder reinnervation in patients with SCIs by using Achilles tendon reflexes below the paraplegic level.
METHODS: Spinal root anastomoses were performed in 12 paraplegic patients with hyperreflexic neurogenic bladder and detrusor external sphincter dyssynergia (DESD) caused by complete suprasacral SCI, in an attempt to reinnervate the bladder. The surgery anasto

INTRODUCTION: The free anterolateral thigh (ALT) flap is commonly used to repair a large loss of soft tissue following a lower-limb injury. An issue to be managed is the choice of adequate recipient vessels when the tibial arteries result damaged. In this scenario, vein grafts can be interposed to connect a healthy recipient vessel to the ALT flap pedicle.
CASE REPORT: We present a report of a 19-year-old male who suffered a Gustilo fracture type IIIc after a road injury involving the right lower limb. After a failed first attempt of limb salvage with reconstruction of extensor tendons and a
