Simple and abundant carboxylic acids have been used as acyl radical precursor by means of visible-light photoredox catalysis. By the transient generation of a reactive anhydride intermediate, this redox-neutral approach offers a mild and rapid entry to high-value heterocyclic compounds without the need of UV irradiation, high temperature, high CO pressure, tin reagents, or peroxides.

The synthesis and structural characterization of the first tin-bridged ansa half-sandwich complexes via a two-step protocol from Na[η(5)-C(5)H(5)Ru(CO)(2)] and in situ generated Na[η(5)-C(5)H(5)Ni(CO)] are presented. Both compounds are characterized by multinuclear NMR spectroscopy and single-crystal diffraction.

The Sonogashira-Hagihara coupling reactions of 2,6-diiodopyridine and cis-3,6-diethynyl-3,6-dimethoxycyclohexa-1,4-diene or cis-9,10-diethynyl-9,10-dimethoxy-9,10-dihydroanthracene gave macrocyclic compounds having alternating 2,6-diethynylpyridine and 3,6-dimethoxycyclohexa-1,4-diene segments. Transformation of the C(3)-symmetric 2,6-diethynylpyridine-based cyclotrimer was efficiently achieved using tin-mediated reductive aromatization under mild conditions.

The preparation of [99mTc]fibrinogen is described. The following factors which could affect the quality of this preparation were studied: pH, SnCl2 and protein concentrations, pre- and post-labeling incubation times and labeling temperature. A 90% labeling yield was achieved by incubating fibrinogen with SnCl2 at pH 9.8 for 22 h before adding the TcO-4 solution. The product obtained was stable and was 85% clottable. The x-ray fluorescence technique was employed to measure the amount of bound tin at different times.

The effects of dietary tin on tin and calcium metabolism were determined in eight adult males. Subjects were fed mixed diets containing 0.11 mg tin daily (control diet) and 49.67 mg tin daily (test diet) for 20 days each in a cross-over design. The first dianionic compound bearing a bond between two pentacoordinated tin atoms, a distannate, was synthesized in a stable form by using two sets of an electron-withdrawing C,O-bidentate ligand on each tin atom. Distribution of butyltin compounds (BTs) and derivatives (monobutyltin, MBT; dibutyltin, DBT and tributyltin, TBT) was analysed in Crassostrea gigas oyster shells and the sediments trapped in the shell chambers, from two different estuaries in Cantabria (Northern Spain), with very different environmental conditions, where previous data have not been reported. This report provides clear evidence of tributyltin (TBT) contamination of coastal waters close to an oil terminal handling large tankers. Dogwhelk populations from Sullom Voe, Shetland, have been examined for the development by females of certain male sexual characteristics (e.g. a penis and vas deferens). This condition, termed imposex, is a response to exposure to tributylin compounds, and can be quantified by use of the relative penis size index (RPSI).
