Paraurethral vaginal leiomyoma.

A case of paraurethral vaginal leiomyoma becoming clinically apparent in the postpartum period is presented. As is frequently the case, the diagnosis was not apparent. Urinary tract origin is commonly suspected, since the majority of these tumors occur in the midline of the anterior vaginal wall. The tumors are often asymptomatic, but can cause dysuria, urinary frequency, urinary retention, and dyspareunia. Pathologically, they are well circumscribed and have the typical microscopic features of leiomyomas found elsewhere. Simple excision is usually adequate treatment.

Development and clinical implementation of simple needle attachment post placement interstitial template (SNAPP-IT) enabling a shorter, more direct needle path while preserving tumor visualization.

PURPOSE: Historical gynecologic interstitial brachytherapy templates block direct tumor visualization during needle placement, presenting an opportunity for clinical innovation to develop a novel interstitial template allowing direct tumor visualization during needle insertion. METHODS AND MATERIALS: We designed and implemented a novel interstitial template, simple needle attachment post placement interstitial template (SNAPP-IT), that allowed direct visualization of the target vaginal tumor during interstitial needle placement while maintaining the ability to individually secure needles to t

Current update on vaginal malignancies.

Primary vaginal cancers are rare and account for 1-3% of all gynecologic malignancies. There are several histological subtypes that affect a wide range of the population. Imaging plays an important role in the diagnosis, staging, and treatment planning of vaginal cancers. This article reviews the relevant anatomy, clinical findings, imaging characteristics, and recent advances in the management of vaginal malignancies.

The impact of brachytherapy boost and radiotherapy treatment duration on survival in patients with vaginal cancer treated with definitive chemoradiation.

PURPOSE: Vaginal cancer is a rare tumor that is optimally treated with a combination of chemotherapy (CHT) and radiation therapy. Because of the rarity of this cancer, the benefit of a brachytherapy boost (BT) and the relevance of radiotherapy time to treatment completion (TTC) are unclear. METHODS: Patients diagnosed between 2004 and 2015 with non-metastatic vaginal cancer treated with definitive CHT and external beam radiotherapy with or without BT but with no surgery were identified in the National Cancer Database. Overall survival (OS) was assessed with Kaplan-Meier curves, and difference

[A Resected Case of the Vaginal Metastasis from Rectal Cancer].

The vaginal metastasis from colorectal cancer has rarely been reported. Here, we report a resected case of the vaginal metastasis from rectal cancer. A 51-year-old woman underwent radical hysterectomy and bilateral oophorectomy for uterus cancer. Five years after the operation, vaginal tumor was observed during an internal examination. Biopsy was positive for adenocarcinoma. Enhanced computed tomography demonstrated the wall thickening of the lower rectum and the mass of 20 mm at the inferior lobe of the left lung. Colonoscopy revealed the wall thickening of the lower rectum, and biopsy indica

Japan Society of Gynecologic Oncology guidelines 2015 for the treatment of vulvar cancer and vaginal cancer.

BACKGROUND: Vulvar cancer and vaginal cancer are relatively rare tumors, and there had been no established treatment principles or guidelines to treat these rare tumors in Japan. The first version of the Japan Society of Gynecologic Oncology (JSGO) guidelines for the treatment of vulvar cancer and vaginal cancer was published in 2015 in Japanese. OBJECTIVE: The JSGO committee decided to publish the English version of the JSGO guidelines worldwide, and hope it will be a useful guide to physicians in a similar situation as in Japan. METHODS: The guideline was created according to the basic pri
