Three new sodium zinc antimonides Na11Zn2Sb5, Na4Zn9Sb9, and NaZn3Sb3 were synthesized utilizing sodium hydride NaH as a reactive sodium source. In comparison to the synthesis using sodium metal, salt-like NaH can be ball-milled, leading to the easy and uniform mixing of precursors in the desired stoichiometric ratios. We report on the theoretical prediction and experimental realization of new ternary zinc molybdenum nitride compounds. We used theory to identify previously unknown ternary compounds in the Zn-Mo-N systems, Zn3MoN4 and ZnMoN2, and to analyze their bonding environment. Variations of epidermal zinc concentration with aging were studied by measuring zinc levels in the epidermis of two groups of healthy subjects: group A aged less than 35 years; group B aged more than 65 years. Deficiency of zinc (Zn), resulting in characteristic skin changes resembling those seen in acrodermatitis enteropathica, has been reported in patients on total parenteral nutrition, but rarely in patients on long-term enteral feeding. Reported here is a patient who developed characteristic skin changes while he was receiving what was considered to be a balanced liquid enteral diet. The skin rash resolved with Zn supplementation.

The beneficial effects of the oral application of zinc aspartate in pregnancy is investigated in a randomly selected study group of 179 patients and a control group of 345 patients.
