To delineate accurately the IgG subclass distribution of thyroid auto-antibodies, sera from nine patients with Hashimoto's thyroiditis were fractionated into IgG subclasses by complete depletion of the other IgG subclasses on affinity columns. The hexane and ethanol extracts from Himatanthus bracteatus (Apocynaceae) stems were evaluated for antiviral activity against Zika virus, yellow fever virus and dengue virus 2 and for cytotoxicity in Vero cells by MTT assay. The ethanol extract showed good antiviral activity against the three viruses with selective indexes (SI) > 10 and its fractionation led to the isolation of the known plumieride that was active only against Zika virus (SI of 15.97).

Primitive lymphomas of the bone are exceptional tumors, representing 4% of all non-Hodgkin lymphomas. The location at the skull remains the rarest. We report the case of a 56 year old patient with lytic lesions in the skull of a small cell lymphoma B, treated with primary chemotherapy and intensity-modulated radiotherapy in arctherapy with a dose of 30Gy in 15 fractions. With a follow-up time of 18 months after the end of treatment, the patient has no sign of disease evolution.

Ninety-one patients with small cell carcinoma of the lung were given a shortened, intensive course of prophylactic cranial irradiation consisting of 2,000 rad in five fractions. The CNS relapse rate was 21%, but in only one of 91 patients was the brain the first and only site of relapse. Acute toxicities consisting of headache (16%) and nausea and vomiting (15%) were observed. Results are compared with previous results from other studies of cranial irradiation.

The effector component of immune system was studied in 39 cases of fibroadenomatosis by morphometric and histochemical methods. Signs of immunosuppression (decreased fraction of free cells of stroma and disturbances in their cooperation) were identified in cases of precancerous changes and cancer. A considerable difference in nucleic acid level in fibroadenomatosis and cancer was established. It is suggested that quantitative morphological study of the effector component of immune system may provide more diagnostic criteria for identification of prognostically unfavorable forms of fibroadenoma

A patient with hypokalemic alkalosis, normotensive hyperreninism, hyperaldosteronism, increased levels of urinary and plasma prostaglandin E, and vascular hyporesponsivity to angiotensin II was thought to have Bartter's syndrome. Results of a kidney biopsy showed hyperplasia of the juxtaglomerular apparatus but no renomedullary cell hyperplasia. A 24-hour urine collection showed a low chloride level and no increase in the fractional chloride clearance, thus excluding Bartter's syndrome. Subsequent disclosure of surreptitious, habitual vomiting explained the hypokalemia.

Pituitary adenomas are heterogeneous in growth rate, invasiveness, and recurrence.
