Post-polymerization modification (PPM) via direct C-H functionalization is a powerful synthetic strategy to convert polymer feed-stocks into value-added products. We found that a metal-free, Se-catalyzed allylic C-H amination provided an efficient method for PPM of polynorbornenes (PNBs) produced via ring-opening metathesis polymerization. Pharyngocutaneous fistulae (PCFs) are a common complication after total laryngectomy. Patients with persistent PCFs are often kept nil by mouth and are dependent on feedings via a gastric tube. Our patient is a 65-year-old man who presented to our clinic in 2008 having a persistent PCF after a total laryngectomy who failed numerous attempts at reconstruction. Twenty-seven patients with acute necrotizing pancreatitis were treated with the Lawson procedure, consisting of closed drainage of the lesser sac, cholecystostomy, gastrostomy and jejunostomy. It is well known that the glycemic control accomplished by the artificial endocrine pancreas (Biostator; GCIIS), requires an excessive insulin consumption. In order to improve the Biostator performance, we have studied 5 insulin dependent diabetic patients on anticipated automatic pre-programmed insulin infusion starting at the beginning of breakfast.
