Hypercalcemia is a rare complication of chronic myeloid leukemia (CML), usually seen in the accelerated or blastic phases of the disease and associated with a poor prognosis. T-cell lymphoid phenotype is also an infrequent finding in the blast crisis (BC) of CML. A CML patient who had hypercalcemia as the presenting feature of a T-cell BC is reported. BACKGROUND/AIM: Several risk factors for recurrence have been identified in stage II colorectal cancer. However, in contrast to stage III, the benefits of adjuvant chemotherapy for these patients remain controversial. We hypothesized that the different impacts of chemotherapy may be due to different patterns of recurrence between these stages. The aim of this study was to characterize recurrence in high-risk stage II colorectal cancer (CRC) in comparison with stage III.
PATIENTS AND METHODS: A total of 442 patients with curatively resected stage III and high-risk stage II CRCs were evaluated.

We have reviewed the pivotal presentations rcelated to colorectal cancer (CRC) and other gastrointestinal malignancies from 2008 annual meeting of the American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO). We have discussed the scientific findings and the impact on practice guidelines and ongoing clinical trials. The report on KRAS status in patients with metastatic CRC receiving epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR) targeted antibody treatment has led to a change in National Comprehensive Cancer Network guideline that recommends only patients with wild-type KRAS tumor should receive this treatment.

BACKGROUND: The objective of the study was to determine if initial surgery (IS) or initial chemotherapy (IC) affects rates of optimal surgery and survival in a population with significant medical comorbidities.

A case of bilateral, synchronous ureteral tumors and a tumor in the left renal pelvis is presented. Conservative surgical treatment involved local resection of both ureteral tumors and partial nephrectomy of the left kidney. Multiple urothelial tumors subsequently developed in the bladder which were resected. The patient has had good kidney function and no evidence of disease.
