Correlates of burnout among Chinese ICU nurses: a meta-analysis.

BACKGROUND: Burnout is prevalent among nurses, particularly in Intensive Care Units (ICUs), where work is characterized by high intensity, high risk, and heavy workloads. This condition not only directly impairs nurses' physical and mental health and reduces their occupational retention rate but may also threaten the safety of ICU patients due to potential declines in the quality of nursing care. Given these implications, effective alleviation of burnout among ICU nurses is essential for promoting their well-being, stabilizing the nursing workforce, and improving patient satisfaction. Beyond the Prompt: Leveraging Generative AI and Tanner's Model to Decode Clinical Logic in Undergraduate Nursing.

BACKGROUND: Transitioning from theory to clinical practice is a persistent hurdle in undergraduate nursing programs, largely because traditional teaching methods lack the frequent, iterative practice needed to close the practice-readiness gap. PURPOSE: This article describes an innovative pedagogical approach that integrates Generative Artificial Intelligence (GenAI) with Tanner's Clinical Judgment Model to develop nonlinear, algorithmic thinking patterns. METHODS: Using an "If This, Then That" logic framework, students use GenAI as a "thinking partner" to build clinical logic. The process f

Undignifying institutions.

Declarations of the importance of dignity in health care are commonplace in codes of practice and other mission statements, yet these documents never clarify dignity's meaning. Their vague aspirations are compared to comments from staff and patients about opportunities for and barriers against the promotion of dignity in elderly care institutions. These suggest that while nurses and health care assistants have an intuitive understanding of dignity, they either do not or cannot always bring it about in practice. Thus, despite stated intentions to promote dignity, it appears that the circumstanc

Nosocomial septicemia and meningitis in neonates.

The past decade brought with it both highly sophisticated neonatal intensive care with improved perinatal mortality rates, and increased risk for nosocomial septicemia and meningitis among survivors. Although most of these infections were caused by multiple antibiotic-resistant gram negative enteric bacteria, Staphylococcus aureus "outbreaks" appeared sporadically. Risk for nosocomial infection was related primarily to factors which enhance infant contact with these bacteria (crowding and high nurse to infant ratios, poor handwashing practices, contaminated life support equipment, antibiotic e

Infection in Solid Organ Transplant: Prevention, Risk, and Treatment Strategies.

Solid organ transplantation is a life-saving procedure for patients with end-stage organ disease. After transplant, recipients receive immunosuppressive therapy to preserve allograft function and prevent rejection. However, this therapy increases the risk of infections, which can cause increased morbidity and mortality. The transplant care team plays a crucial role in preventing, assessing, diagnosing, and managing infections in patients with solid organ transplantation. Preventive strategies include comprehensive infectious disease screening before transplant, vaccinations, and educating pati

Monitoring Hospitalized Adult Patients for Opioid-Induced Sedation and Respiratory Depression.

: Opioid analgesics are commonly administered to hospitalized patients to treat acute pain, but these drugs put patients at risk for serious adverse events, such as unintended advancing sedation, respiratory depression, and death. Nurses play an important role in keeping patients safe by making clinical decisions about the frequency and intensity with which patients receiving IV and epidural opioids should be monitored. To make sound clinical judgments, nurses must be aware of the factors that place patients at elevated risk for adverse opioid-related effects and know how to screen and assess
