Microstomia is one of the most distressing results of burn. In this article, two cases presenting with microstomia following burn injury were revealed. In these patients, perioral and commisure defects due to burn were severe. The commissuroplasties were performed with a composite graft harvested and reshaped from the ear lobule. Twenty-two patients with non-healing wounds over the heel, with or without underlying osteomyelitis, had been unresponsive to conservative therapy. They were treated with a partial calcanectomy as an alternative to below knee amputation. Nine patients had a primary diagnosis of diabetes. BACKGROUND/PURPOSE: A small percentage of patients who have undergone traditional, "Ravitch-type" pectus excavatum repair present with unsatisfactory results and require a second procedure for correction. Reoperative open surgery for pectus excavatum has been associated with extensive dissection and substantial blood loss. The minimally invasive (MIS) bar repair for the correction of pectus excavatum has been gaining acceptance. A new surgical treatment for De Quervain's disease is presented, in which the anatomy and function of the first dorsal compartment is preserved. Our findings in 11 wrists in ten patients revealed complete relief of the pre-operative symptoms in all instances. OBJECTIVE: To study the effect of distraction osteogenesis of mandibular ramus in correcting hemifacial microsomia.
METHODS: From December 1997 to March 2000 two kinds of mandibular distractors made in Germany and China were used in 11 cases with hemifacial microsomia aged 4.5 approximately 23 years (on average 14.1 years).
