Common carotid artery blood flow (CCF), pulmonary gas exchange and ventilation were measured in six subjects in the supine posture (SUP I), serially during 20 min of head-down tilt at -30 degrees (HDT) and after returning to the supine posture (SUP II). Patients with weakness or abnormal posture of their lower leg may benefit greatly from appropriate orthoses. This paper describes the sorts of problems that can be helped in neurological practice and the range of devices commonly used, and also highlights some of the factors influencing selection. A 46-year-old man presented with a left cerebellopontine angle lipoma of unusual size. The patient also complained of hearing loss and left trigeminal neuralgia, which were triggered on the same side as the lesion in the resting posture. Surgical treatment with simple debridement of the arachnoid membranes to reduce internal tension in the tumour resulted in stable pain remission and hypoacusia without additional deficit.

Providing CP Patients with functional clubfoot with orthopaedic shoe modifications has not a good evaluation in the literature. An own concept of fitting this kind of spastic foot deformity is demonstrated. It is based on stabilizing shoe modifications combined with spasticity inhibiting posture of the foot in the shoe. The results based on a follow-up examination of nearly five years can be considered positive.

The thumb in a child with Apert syndrome provides the key to hand function. The characteristic "hitchhiker" posture or radial clinodactyly of these short but broad digits is caused by an abnormal proximal phalanx. Along with the shortened and radially deviated proximal phalanx, the first webspace (thumb-index) is always deficient.
