Robot-assisted resection of diaphragmatic and hepatorenal recess peritoneal endometriosis: Two cases and a narrative review.

In this report, we describe two cases of diaphragmatic endometriosis with concurrent hepatorenal recess peritoneal involvement managed using robotic-assisted laparoscopic surgery with the da Vinci Xi platform. In both patients, diaphragmatic implants and hepatorenal recess peritoneal lesions were excised en bloc, followed by resection of additional pelvic and abdominal lesions. Case 1 involved a 45-year-old woman whose pathology confirmed endometriosis in 28 of 46 sites, including the diaphragm, umbilicus, bowel, hepatorenal recess peritoneum, and pelvic peritoneum. Case 2 involved a 32-year-o

Surgical Management of Retropharyngeal Metastases From Papillary Thyroid Carcinoma: Transcervical and Transoral Robotic Approaches.

BACKGROUND: Papillary thyroid carcinoma (PTC) typically has favorable outcomes, with surgery as the primary treatment. While metastases to central or lateral cervical lymph nodes are relatively common, retropharyngeal spread is rare. It often manifests as elevated serum thyroglobulin levels or iodine uptake in recurrent disease in asymptomatic patients. The resection through transcervical route offers good access but has potential complications. Transoral Robotic Surgery (TORS) has emerged as a viable alternative with reduced morbidity. OBJECTIVES: To describe a series of cases of PTC retroph

Port-Access Robotic Repair of Barlow Mitral Annular Disjunction and Severe Mitral Valve Regurgitation.

Mitral annular disjunction (MAD) is associated with malignant ventricular arrhythmias and progressive mitral regurgitation. We describe a 35-year-old man with a history of sudden cardiac death who presented with palpitations and recurrent ventricular arrhythmias. Remote transthoracic echocardiography showed no structural abnormality, with repeated transthoracic echocardiography demonstrating only mild mitral regurgitation. During this admission, transesophageal echocardiography revealed severe mitral regurgitation from Barlow disease with profound MAD. Port-access robotic mitral valve repair e

Robotic approach for lymphadenectomy of internal mammary lymph nodes in breast cancer: Five case reports.

BACKGROUND: Internal mammary (IM) lymphadenopathies in breast cancer indicate a worse prognosis than axillary metastases, yet they are rarely assessed. Accurate staging is essential for treatment planning. Robotic biopsy offers a promising alternative to video-assisted thoracic surgery for precise histological sampling. This article outlines a systematic robot-assisted dissection approach to enhance staging accuracy and optimize breast cancer management. CASE SUMMARY: At our institution, robotic lymphadenectomy of the IM chain was performed in 5 patients between July 2020 and December 2024. P

Reminiscent music therapy combined with robot-assisted rehabilitation for elderly stroke patients: a pilot study.

BACKGROUND: Although some studies suggest that robot-assisted technology can significantly improve upper limb function in stroke patients compared to traditional rehabilitation training, it is still necessary to incorporate an auxiliary intervention to alleviate negative emotions, thereby alleviating the post-stroke fatigue and encouraging patients to actively respond to rehabilitation. However, the effect of the auxiliary intervention is unknown. OBJECTIVE: To evaluate the effect of reminiscent music therapy combined with robot-assisted rehabilitation in elderly patients with upper limb dysf

Unsupervised robot-assisted rehabilitation after stroke: feasibility, effect on therapy dose, and user experience.

BACKGROUND: Unsupervised robot-assisted rehabilitation is a promising approach to increase the dose of therapy after stroke, which may help promote sensorimotor recovery without requiring significant additional resources and manpower. However, the unsupervised use of robotic technologies is not yet a standard, as rehabilitation robots often show low usability or are considered unsafe to be used by patients independently. In this paper we explore the feasibility of unsupervised therapy with an upper limb rehabilitation robot in a clinical setting, evaluate the effect on the overall therapy dose

Socially Assistive Robot for Stroke Rehabilitation: A Long-Term in-the-Wild Pilot Randomized Controlled Trial.

Socially assistive robots (SARs) have been suggested as a platform for post-stroke training. It is not yet known whether long-term interaction with a SAR can lead to an improvement in the functional ability of individuals post-stroke. The aim of this pilot study was to compare the changes in motor ability and quality of life following a long-term intervention for upper-limb rehabilitation of post-stroke individuals using three approaches: 1) training with a SAR in addition to usual care; 2) training with a computer in addition to usual care; and 3) usual care with no additional intervention. Ergonomic interventions to reduce upper limb musculoskeletal pain during robotic surgery: a narrative review.

There is a high prevalence of upper limb musculoskeletal pain among robotic surgeons. Poor upper limb ergonomic positioning during robotic surgery occurs when the shoulders are abducted, and the elbows are lifted off the console armrest. The validated rapid upper limb assessment can quantify ergonomic efficacy. Surface electromyography and hand dynamometer assessment of strength are the most common methods to assess muscle fatigue. A literature review was performed to find evidence of ergonomic interventions which reduce upper limb musculoskeletal pain during robotic surgery. There is a paucit

Integrating subject-specific workspace constraint and performance-based control strategy in robot-assisted rehabilitation.

INTRODUCTION: The robot-assistive technique has been widely developed in the field of neurorehabilitation for enhancement of neuroplasticity, muscle activity, and training positivity. To improve the reliability and feasibility in this patient-robot interactive context, motion constraint methods and adaptive assistance strategies have been developed to guarantee the movement safety and promote the training effectiveness based on the user's movement information. Unfortunately, few works focus on customizing quantitative and appropriate workspace for each subject in passive/active training mode,

Enhancing Surgical Precision in Autonomous Robotic Incisions via Physics-Based Tissue Cutting Simulation.

In soft tissue surgeries, such as tumor resections, achieving precision is of utmost importance. Surgeons conventionally achieve this precision through intraoperative adjustments to the cutting plan, responding to deformations from tool-tissue interactions. This study examines the integration of physics-based tissue cutting simulations into autonomous robotic surgery to preoperatively predict and compensate for such deformations, aiming to improve surgical precision and reduce the necessity for dynamic adjustments during autonomous surgeries. This study adapts a real-to-sim-to-real workflow. I
