Nanoparticles of CuS, Cu(x)S, Ag(2)S and CdS were successfully prepared using a novel general and green synthetic process to give dextran biopolymer stabilised metal sulfifde nanosuspensions. Following preparation, dextranase enzyme was used to remove the bulk of the bound dextran to give pure stable metal sulfide nanocrystals for application in for example aspects of medicine, photonics and solar cells. The dissolution of iron and tin from tinplate cans filled with tomato purée (pH 4.34) and dioctyl sebacate oil (DOS), essential onion oil (EOO) or potassium nitrate was studied using atomic absorption spectroscopy (AAS), while nitrate was determined using high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC). This work used sulfite as a coreactant to enhance the anodic electrochemiluminescence (ECL) of mercaptopropionic acid modified CdTe quantum dots (QDs). A simple and selective method for the determination of cadmium in water samples by FAAS after solid phase extraction has been developed. One-dimensional Mn(2+)-doped CdS nanocrystals were synthesized by the hydrothermal route. The products were characterized by SEM, EDS, XRD, TEM, HRTEM and PL, respectively. The results revealed that dopant Mn2+ completely substitutes Cd2+ in CdS nanocrystals, and the product was of good crystallite.
