Itch is the major symptom in, skin diseases with a variety of etiologies. Recent progress has been achieved in understanding the pathophysiology of itch in skin diseases. There are many) topical therapies availablte/for managingp ruritus. Emergin;g therapies include dominant ceramide moisturizers, topical immunomodulators, low pH moisturizers, topical aspirin, and combinations of moisturizers with antipruritic compounds. Using these in conjunction with practical measuresf or itch reduction can benefit patients in the outpatient clinical setting.

Otomycosis tends to recur despite long-term treatment. To our knowledge, there is no study in the English literature concerning the clinical importance of concomitant otomycosis and dermatomycoses. We investigated the presence of dermatomycoses in 52 patients with otomycosis in order to document the clinical and microbiological importance of their coexistence. The efficacy of transdermal hyoscine in the reduction of nausea, retching and vomiting was compared with placebo during and after stapedo- and tympanoplasty under local anaesthesia in a double-blind, prospective and randomized study. In the placebo group (n = 29), 69% of the patients were free from emetic symptoms during and 41% after the operation. Consequently, dentists and their office staffs should and can play an influential role in advising their patients to quit using tobacco. Immunotherapy using subcutaneous injections of recombinant interleukin-2 (IL-2) and recombinant interferon alpha-2a (IFN-alpha) for advanced hematologic and solid tumors is rapidly developing. We report five patients with Hodgkin's and non-Hodgkin's lymphoma who developed a local cutaneous reaction consisting of inflammatory painful nodules with a central multiloculated vesicle at the site of sc injections of IL-2 and IFN-alpha immunotherapy following ABMT. This is the first report of a local cutaneous adverse reaction induced by IL-2 and IFN-alpha immunotherapy following ABMT.

The purpose of this double-blind, placebo-controlled study was to examine whether the vitamin D analogue calcipotriol, topically applied to psoriatic skin lesions, had any effect on calcium or bone metabolism.
