The effects of different vasovasostomy techniques on motility of vas deferens (vas motility following vasovasostomy).

PURPOSE: Vasovasostomy is used to correct vas deferens (VD) transections encountered during surgery or to reverse sterilization vasectomies. Achieving vasal patency is the primary goal and the success is assessed on various factors including VD patency, flow rates, and pregnancy rates. While preserving vas motility is not a major concern in surgical practice, it is worth noting that VD has peristaltic activity which plays crucial role during ejaculation. Any disruption in its motility could potentially lead to negative outcomes in the future. We conducted an experimental study to assess vas mo

Neuromuscular assessment of force development, postural, and gait performance under cognitive-motor dual-tasking in healthy older adults and people with early Parkinson's disease: Study protocol for a cross-sectional Mobile Brain/Body Imaging (MoBI) study.

BACKGROUND: Neuromuscular dysfunction is common in older adults and more pronounced in neurodegenerative diseases. In Parkinson's disease (PD), a complex set of factors often prevents the effective performance of activities of daily living that require intact and simultaneous performance of the motor and cognitive tasks. METHODS: The cross-sectional study includes a multifactorial mixed-measure design. Between-subject factor grouping the sample will be Parkinson's Disease (early PD vs. healthy). The within-subject factors will be the task complexity (single- vs. dual-task) in each motor activ

Genotype Study of Filaggrin Gene Loss-of-Function Mutations in Central India Population with Atopic Dermatitis and Ichthyosis Vulgaris.

BACKGROUND: A genotype study of filaggrin gene loss-of-function mutations in central India can provide valuable insights into the prevalence and association of these mutations with atopic dermatitis (AD) and ichthyosis vulgaris (IV) in the region. The FLG R501X and 2282del4 are both genetic variants in the human gene called filaggrin gene (FLG), which encodes a protein that plays an important role in the formation and maintenance of the skin barrier. In this study, we determined the FLG R501X and 2282del4 variants association with both AD and IV in Central Indian populations. MATERIALS AND ME

A Comparative Study Between Use of Topical Honey and Edinburgh University's Solution of Lime (EUSOL) Dressing in Necrotizing Fascitis Wounds.

Introduction Necrotizing soft tissue infection is potentially life-threatening and involves subcutaneous fascial planes, later involving overlying skin and, eventually, underlying muscles. Early diagnosis and prompt treatment are necessary for this disease's management to avoid significant morbidity and fatality. After resuscitation and optimization, early surgical debridement is followed by serials of dressing. Various materials like Edinburgh University's solution of lime (EUSOL), normal saline, povidone-iodine, and honey have been used as dressing solutions for necrotizing fasciitis. This s

Prevention of new-onset atrial fibrillation in elderly patients undergoing anatomic pulmonary resection by infusion of magnesium sulfate: protocol for a randomized controlled trial.

Atrial fibrillation (AF) is the most commonly sustained arrhythmia after pulmonary resection, which has been shown to predict higher hospital morbidity and mortality. The lack of strong evidence-based medical evidence makes doctors have very few options for medications to prevent new-onset AF following thoracic surgery. Magnesium can prevent perioperative AF in patients undergoing cardiac surgery. However, this has not yet been fully studied in patients undergoing non-cardiac thoracic surgery, which is the aim of this study. This is a single-center, prospective, double-blind, randomized contro

Neuromodulation of spinal reflex pathway for the treatment of detrusor overactivity by medial plantar nerve stimulation at surface of sole of foot in patients with spinal cord injury.

OBJECTIVES: Suprasacral spinal cord lesions are prone to have neurogenic detrusor overactivity leading to urinary incontinence. Current medical management has known side-effects and often surgical managements are irreversible. Electrical stimulation to modulate spinal reflex pathway having same nerve root as urinary bladder is reported in the literature. This study aimed to reduce detrusor overactivity in patients with spinal cord injury (SCI) using surface electrical stimulation of medial plantar nerve at the sole of foot. MATERIALS AND METHODS: Twenty adults with SCI having episode of at le

Tension-free inguinal hernia repair with transversus abdominis plane (TAP) block in elderly high-risk patients.

BACKGROUND: Inguinal hernia repair is still being studied today because it is one of the most commonly performed surgical procedures in the world and is used in people of all ages. Although many centers use spinal anesthetic to treat inguinal hernias, complications such as hypotension from peripheral vasodilation, delayed mobilization from paralysis, urine retention and post-spinal headache might occur. Regional blocks are a significant component of multimodal anaesthesia that promotes postoperative recovery. Transversus abdominis plane (TAP) block is a regional anesthetic block technique that
