AK-5 is a spontaneously regressing rat histiocytoma and the tumor regression is mediated by CD8+ NK cells. We have investigated the functional status of effector cells mediating complete remission of the tumor. The effector-target interaction takes place with the help of antibody to AK-5 and the mechanism of lysis involves ADCC. The immune lymphocytes displayed higher ADCC against AK-5 and spontaneous NK activity against YAC1 targets when compared with normal lymphocytes. We describe a 33-yr-old pregnant woman in whom a primary biliary cirrhosis-like syndrome developed after 2 wk of chlorpromazine therapy. The clinical course was characterized by severe jaundice lasting 22 mo, intense pruritus, fever, steatorrhea, high alkaline phosphatase levels and hypercholesterolemia. A 27-year-old white female with a history of paroxysmal supraventricular tachycardia presented to the emergency department complaining of intermittent palpitations. Although no tachydysrhythmia was present, she was noted to have two distinct PR intervals during normal sinus rhythm while in the emergency department. Disseminated blastomycosis, usually a chronic slowly progressive illness, primarily occurs in individuals with a history of exposure to a rural environmental source. We report a case of disseminated blastomycosis leading to acute respiratory failure in a young man confined to prison in an urban area.

Pacing system failure due to lead related problems may necessitate repositioning or explantation of the problem lead. Pediatric patients with permanent pacemakers have additional considerations that necessitate revision or explantation of pacing leads. Active fixation type leads appear to offer the physician advantages over passive fixation leads that may make them the lead of choice for use in children. To understand the normal, physiological role of the c-src proto-oncogene, a null mutation was introduced into the gene by homologous recombination in mouse embryonic stem cells. Two independent targeted clones were used to generate chimeras that transmitted the mutated allele to their offspring. Intercrossing of heterozygotes gave rise to live born homozygotes, but most of these mice died within the first few weeks of birth. Histological and hematological examination of the homozygous mutants did not reveal detectable abnormalities in the brain or platelets, where src is most highly expressed.

157 hospitals from Poland with average number of deliveries 294,457 per year answered the questionnaires. In this paper some selected points of the answers are presented; on this basis the treatment of EPH gestosis in average hospitals (a.h.) is compared with the treatment in highly specialized, leading hospitals (l.h.). A series of 237 appendices was studied immunohistochemically for neurogenous hyperplasia. This was observed in 195 cases. We describe a 51-year-old man in whom chronic maxillary sinusitis developing from a deep periodontal pocket, at 26, gave rise to cellulitis of the left orbit. The immediate cause was a fracture of the left zygomatic bone with some displacement of the infraorbital margin and the orbital floor. Treatment consisted of drainage and antibiotic medication. The zygomatic bone fracture was not reduced. Eye movements returned to normal and visual acuity was not permanently affected.

A 49-year-old bisexual man with generalized lymphadenopathy and antihuman T lymphocyte virus, type III, (HTLV-III) antibodies presented with recurrent, unilateral amaurosis fugax. A temporal artery biopsy specimen showed eosinophilic vasculitis. The patient then developed acquired immunodeficiency syndrome with Kaposi's sarcoma. We describe this patient because of the unusual association of large vessel vasculitis and acquired immunodeficiency syndrome.
