Artificial intelligence in the management of patient-ventilator asynchronies: A scoping review.

BACKGROUND: Patient-ventilator asynchronies (PVAs) are frequent complications in mechanically ventilated patients, contributing to adverse outcomes such as ventilator-induced lung injury, prolonged mechanical ventilation, and increased mortality. Artificial intelligence (AI) has emerged as a promising tool for enhancing PVA detection, prediction, and optimization. Despite its growing potential, the full scope of AI applications in this field and persistent gaps in evidence remain inadequately explored. OBJECTIVE: This scoping review examines the breadth of AI-based approaches for managing PVA

Association between time budget of primiparous cows and their adaptation to an automatic milking system following parturition.

The objective of this study was to identify the differences in the transition period time budget of first-lactation cows that adapt quickly to a free-traffic automatic milking system (AMS) versus those that require more chronic fetching during the adaptation period following calving. A total of 22 primiparous Holstein cows were observed from ∼21 d before calving to 23 DIM, following their adaptation to an AMS. During the prepartum period, heifer time budgets were monitored for rumination, feeding activities, lying behavior, and standing behavior. These same behaviors were monitored in the post

The influence of diet, saliva, and dental history on the oral microbiome in healthy, caries-free Australian adults.

Oral microbiome transplantation (OMT) has the potential to serve as a therapeutic approach for managing dental caries; however, it is essential to identify suitable donors. The aim of this study was to analyse the relationship between dietary (i.e., energy, water, carbohydrate and sugar intake), saliva quality (i.e., saliva flow rate and salivary pH), and clinical factors (i.e., past caries experience and fluoride exposure) on the oral microbiome composition of potential OMT donors. For this cross-sectional study, a comprehensive dental examination was conducted for 93 healthy, caries-free adu

The Application of a Protocol for Virtual Certifying Examinations: Five-Year Results (2020-2024).

OBJECTIVE: In 2016, researchers warned that as medical education becomes increasingly dependent on video-recorded data, protocols must be developed before an international conflict forces the conversion. Four years later, SARS-CoV-2 forced medical societies to find social distancing options for certifying examinations (CE). Our objective was twofold: incorporate a communication protocol that impacts the video-capture process for each candidate in an established review course; and monitor results on the CE (2020-2024). DESIGN: A multi-institutional prospective cohort design was used to assess

Effects of bacteriophage supplementation on performance, gut health and blood biochemistry in broilers challenged with necrotic enteritis.

Necrotic enteritis (NE), primarily caused by Clostridium perfringens (CP) type G, poses a significant threat to broiler health and performance, especially in antibiotic-restricted production systems. Bacteriophage therapy is emerging as a promising alternative to antibiotics for controlling enteric pathogens in poultry, including CP. However, a critical knowledge gap exists in specifically determining the in vivo effects of bacteriophages combined with probiotics against CP strains associated with NE in broilers under practical conditions. Therefore, this study aimed to evaluate the efficacy o

Rapid detection of multiple gas mixtures and evaluation of harmful gas removal efficiency in a deck decompression chamber using dynamic switching mass spectrometry.

The multiple gas mixtures in the deck decompression chamber (DDC) serve as a life-sustaining medium for divers to adapt to high-pressure environments and to safely decompress after saturation diving operations. However, due to the complexity of the gas composition and the wide concentration range, there is currently no technique that can rapidly detect all gases in the DDC. In this study, we developed a photoinduced chemical ionization (pCI) and electron impact (EI) dynamic switching mass spectrometry system. This technique was applied to investigate the spatial distribution uniformity of resp

Prospective Observational Case-Control Study on the Potential of Maternal Ophthalmic Artery Doppler Velocimetry in the Evaluation of Preeclampsia.

Background and objective Preeclampsia (PE) is a lethal hypertensive disorder that significantly contributes to maternal as well as fetal morbidity besides mortality, especially in low-resource settings like India. Thus, it is essential to diagnose and manage early to prevent poor maternal and fetal outcomes. PE causes cerebrovascular endothelial dysfunction and impairs cerebral autoregulation due to systemic hypertension. So, monitoring of cerebrovascular alteration is crucial for preventing severe neurological outcomes. In this study, we have used maternal ophthalmic artery Doppler (OAD) as a
