A case of undifferentiated spindle-cell carcinoma of the gallbladder is described. A 72-year-old man presented with right hypochondralgia and fever. Imaging studies revealed a well-demarcated solid tumor (with a necrotic center) in the gallbladder that invaded the liver and transverse colon. On gross examination of the surgical specimen, the cut surface of the polypoid tumor showed nodular invasive growth. Skin cancers are the most common types of all cancers, and the most commonly occurring skin cancers are basal cell carcinoma, squamous cell carcinoma, and malignant melanoma, in that order. This article discusses the clinical presentations and subtypes of these 3 types of cancer and the current state of treatments for them. Also discussed are precursor lesions to these malignancies, including actinic keratosis, a squamous cell carcinoma precursor, and atypical or dysplastic nevus, a potential precursor of malignant melanoma.

BACKGROUND: Meningioma in twin pregnancy is rare. The tumor has an accelerated growth during the pregnancy and may enlarge or become symptomatic during this period. This relationship makes management of patients with this tumor quite challenging.

BACKGROUND: Patients with high-grade dysplasia (HGD) in Barrett's oesophagus carry a significant risk of developing adenocarcinoma. Endoscopic mucosal resection (EMR) and photodynamic therapy (PDT) aim at the radical ablation of the dysplastic area.
METHODS: We used EMR to resect the macroscopic area of dysplastic mucosa followed by PDT to eliminate residual disease. PDT was performed after oral administration of 5-aminolevulinic acid (ALA, 40 mg/kg), using fractionated illumination 3 and 6 h later with 630 nm light at 100 J/cm(2) through an endoscopic balloon diffuser.

We report a case of primary low-grade B-cell lymphoma of mucosa-associated lymphoid tissue (MALT)-type of the liver presenting as a solitary mass in a patient with hepatitis C virus infection. A 73-year-old male was referred to our hospital because of a solitary mass in the liver, which was identified by ultrasonography during a routine follow-up study for his hepatitis C virus carrier status. A fine-needle biopsy was performed and the mass was diagnosed as non-Hodgkin's lymphoma. A detailed investigation showed no evidence of lymphoma in other sites. Left lateral segmentectomy was performed.

A 55-year-old man presented with a smoothly elevated solid choroidal mass with choroidal detachment in the temporal region of the left eye. Authors presented two cases of facial neuromas in the internal auditory canal, one without facial palsy and the other with facial palsy. In both cases neuromas were occult and undiagnosed. Although in the first case neuroma was greater than the other, facial palsy was not developed. The mechanism of the facial palsy due to neuromas could not be clearly clarified.

Acidification of the extracellular milieu of malignant tumors is reported to increase the invasive behavior of cancer cells. In normal tissues, production of acid is catalyzed by carbonic anhydrases (CAs), some of which are known to be overexpressed in certain cancers. Fourteen cases with retinoblastoma has been histologic studied. In eleven cases of them has been observed the invasion in the neighbour structures following the tumoral mass development: four cases in the vitreous, one case in the vitreous and the choroid, sclera and the optic nerve, one case in the vitreous choroid and optic nerve, two cases in the optic nerve. The tumoral invasion in the neighbour structures was observed only at the undifferentiated retinoblastoma.
