Transanal Endoscopic Microsurgery (TEM) was introduced to clinical practice by Buess in 1983. After several years of gaining experience technique has been used for the excisions of rectal tumours. TEM enables excisions of the tumours localised in the rectum and distal portion of the sigmoid colon from 5 to 25 cm from the anal verge. Until now 13 patients have been operated using TEM method. Mental-health service utilization among elderly people has been shown to be low relative to younger age groups. This study was done to determine the current proportion of elderly persons served in a university-affiliated psychiatry outpatient clinic, and to better characterize elderly patients who receive specialized mental-health care in this setting. An intensive case management intervention for homeless persons was evaluated by random assignment of 202 cases (involving 213 adults and 70 children) to the intervention or a control group. Replacement therapy with intravenous immunoglobulin (IVIG) is currently the therapy of choice in patients with antibody-formation deficiency. Our 30-month experience with IVIG treatment in 8 patients with common variable immunodeficiency and in 4 patients with x-linked agammaglobulinemia previously treated by intramuscular immunoglobulin or low-dose IVIG is presented. The author describes using the Older Adults Resource Survey to determine functional status in five domains.
