Sleep quality and nocturnal pain in patients with elbow disorders: a prospective multicenter study.

BACKGROUND: Mental health disorders have become a growing global concern. Sleep quality is known to have a crucial impact on mental well-being. Poor sleep contributes to increasing economic costs owing to reduced productivity as well as the development of mental disorders. Conversely, anxiety and depression often lead to sleep disturbances. Pain is a key factor affecting sleep quality. Studies have shown that musculoskeletal disorders, especially in the shoulder, may cause sleep disturbances. Research on the relationship between elbow pain and sleep quality remains limited. This study aims to

Physical activity, genetic predisposition and the risk of rheumatoid arthritis: a prospective cohort study.

BACKGROUND: Physical activities have consistently been associated with rheumatoid arthritis risk. However, there is limited evidence regarding their associations according to different genetic susceptibility to the disease, and it remains poorly understood whether systemic inflammation and lipids may mediate this association. METHODS: To investigate the association between physical activity and risk of rheumatoid arthritis, a multivariable Cox regression was performed using data from 351,857 participants in UK Biobank cohort. Additionally, we assessed the interaction of physical activity with

Functional Outcomes of Surgical Management of Posterior Wall Acetabular Fractures: A Prospective Study.

INTRODUCTION: Around 10% of the pelvic injuries involve acetabulum and approximately one-third of the acetabular fractures involve the posterior wall. These fractures are difficult to treat due to the complex three-dimensional (3D) anatomy, limitations of the surgical approaches due to important structures surrounding the acetabulum and extensive dissection of the large muscles around the hip. This prospective study aims to evaluate the functional outcomes of surgical management of posterior wall acetabular fractures, with or without associated bony injuries and posterior hip dislocation. MAT

Quantitative MRI Markers Detect Postpancreatitis Changes and Diabetes: A Prospective Cohort Study.

INTRODUCTION: Pediatric acute pancreatitis (AP) prevalence is increasing, yet early imaging markers identifying progression to acute recurrent pancreatitis (ARP) and pancreatitis-related endocrine dysfunction (DM/Pre-DM) are unknown. Quantitative magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) measures including T1 relaxation, T1 signal intensity ratio, proton density fat fraction (PDFF), and pancreatic volume may help characterize disease stage but have not been prospectively evaluated after a single AP episode. METHODS: This prospective, single-center study enrolled participants aged 5-30 years. Participa

C-reactive protein and residual cardiovascular risk in hypertension: a prospective cohort study.

Control of systolic blood pressure (SBP) is important to prevent major adverse cardiovascular events (MACE) in hypertension. However, many individuals with controlled SBP still experience MACE, and the mechanisms remain relatively unknown. We sought to investigate whether elevated C-reactive protein (CRP), indicator of systemic inflammation, was associated with residual MACE risk in hypertensive individuals with controlled SBP. Community hypertensive individuals without cardiovascular disease (CVD) at baseline were included from UK Biobank study (n = 200243; mean age 58.3 years; females 50.3%;

Association between remnant cholesterol and cardiac conduction block: A prospective cohort study.

BACKGROUND: Elevated remnant cholesterol (RC) is recognized as a risk factor for atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease. However, its association with cardiac conduction block (CCB) remains unclear. OBJECTIVE: This study aimed to investigate the relationship between serially measured RC levels and incident CCB. METHODS: This study used data from the Kailuan study. RC level was measured at baseline in 2006 and at biennial follow-up visits. Cumulative average RC levels were calculated using all available RC measurements before incident cases of CCB or the end of follow-up (December 31, 2019).
